Singer tells BBC that the score to a forthcoming Gorillaz feature film will be the final music from the cartoon-based band.

With his latest project, the Good, the Bad & the Queen, in full effect, sonic chameleon Damon Albarn has revealed that his previous--and most popular--project won't be releasing any more albums.

Gorillaz Gorillaz

In an interview with BBC Radio 2, the Blur frontman and Gorillaz mastermind said he won't be making any more pop records under the Gorillaz moniker. The only Gorillaz project on the table, he said, was the much-rumored feature film that has been linked to filmmaker and Monty Python alum Terry Gilliam.

"We're trying to make a film next, starting in September hopefully," Albarn said. "It will be a film score. There won't be another pop record."

The band, created visually by animator Jamie Hewlett and sonically by Albarn and a who's who of contributors, released two albums, their self-titled debut in 2001 and 2005's Demon Days.

Lame, LAme, LAMe, LAME!!! Albarn has drank too many apple ciders. Gorillaz are really cool (they take forever to release albums, though). Too bad. You won't see me crying over it, though, because they got some pretty cool albums out while they lasted (all except for Space Monkeys Vs. Gorillaz Laika Come Home were really cool). Not a lot of albums, but they shared their coolness with all of their fans and what not... it surprisingly strikes no emotions in me.

Terry Gilliam teaming up with 'Gorrilaz'. I would never have imagined! I guess it makes sense on some level. I know he liked 'Franz Ferdinand' but I guess he likes their music too. wonder who cqme up with this idea first?

In reality I just thin that Gilliam is just using this opportunit to create somethng commercial to finance his next movie. If we get another "Fisher King" out of it I will be happy!

WHAT?! I love Gorillaz... They're one of my favorite bands, and one of the most unique bands I've ever seen. This really sucks...

Conceived as the first "virtual hip-hop group," Gorillaz blended the musical talents of Dan "The Automator" Nakamura, Blur's Damon Albarn, Cibo Matto's Miho Hatori, and Tom Tom Club's Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz with the arresting visuals of Jamie Hewlett, best known as the creator of the cult comic Tank Girl. Damon Albarn went to great pains to explain that the first Gorillaz album was a collaboration between him, cartoonist Jamie Hewlett, and producer Dan the Automator, but any sort of pretense to having the virtual pop group seem like a genuine collaborative band was thrown out the window for the group's long-awaited 2005 sequel, Demon Days....
