50 Cent gets big guns for album
50 Cent has lined up a who's who of guests for his forthcoming album, Curtis, which hits stores June 26. Dr. Dre, Eminem, and Timbaland all provide production on the album; the title is taken straight from a 50 Cent diss track made by Cam'ron. Curtis also features appearances by Eminem, Akon, Justin Timberlake, Mary J. Blige, Robin Thicke, and Nicole Scherzinger from the Pussycat Dolls. A track list has yet to be announced. The album's first single, "Straight to the Bank" recently debuted at No. 21 on Billboard's Hot Rap Songs chart.
Report: Eminem looks to run 8 Mile haunt
Eminem and his manager are looking to lease and operate the venue where he laid the groundwork for his multiplatinum career. According to the Detroit Free Press, the rapper and his manager Paul Rosenberg, are in talks with concert promoter Live Nation to lease and operate St. Andrew's Hall; the venue's basement housed the freestyle sessions where Eminem honed his skills. "The Shelter," as the basement is known, was featured in the movie 8 Mile, which was loosely based on Eminem's life as an up-and-coming MC. Live Nation owns the venue and reportedly put it on the market earlier this year. But instead of buying it, Eminem would be looking to lease and run it.
Radiohead teases fans about album
Radiohead continues to tease its fans about its long-delayed forthcoming album. In a post on the band's Web site, frontman Thom Yorke wrote, "Radiohead starts up again having finally caught up on some sleep next week. I have a CD of what we've been up to...and you haven't. Yet. (sorry) I must listen to it, after taking an ear break that always makes me nervous. Hope you're well." The as-yet-untitled album, which will be the band's first since 2003's Hail to the Thief, doesn't yet have a release date.
Richards' mom passes away
Insert ash-snorting joke here. Doris Richards, the 91-year-old mother of legendary Rolling Stones' guitarist Keith Richards, passed away over the weekend after a battle with cancer. The guitarist extended his stay in London to be with his mother, who passed away peacefully in her sleep.
Richards kept a vigil at her bedside, forcing him to skip a memorial for the late record mogul Ahmet Ertegun last week, according to Reuters. Her death comes just weeks after Richards told NME that he once snorted a line of his own father's ashes.
My Chemical Romance bassist takes leave
My Chemical Romance bassist Mikey Way will take time off from playing with the band to properly celebrate his recent marriage. In a statement on the band's Web site, lead singer Gerard Way wrote, "I'm very proud to announce my brother's recent marriage. Watching him grow up into a man and finding love makes me the happiest brother alive. In light of this joyous event, the band has decided to give him and his wife a much needed break from the road to start a life and have a proper honeymoon and do all of the things a newlywed couple should do. I know this is upsetting news, as it is for us, but we will continue to tour with a temporary replacement until he has situated himself in his new life." The band has decided to continue on with as-of-yet unannounced replacement.
