Akon tosses fan off stage

Akon gets to know his fan base. Akon gets to know his fan base.

Ahh, the life of a multiplatinum polygamist soul crooner. One day you're dry humping and manhandling 15-year-old girls on stage, the next you're picking up male fans over your head and throwing them off stage. It's enough to want to get married again. Akon apparently decided to "interact" with his audience once again at a show at Dutchess Stadium in the Hudson Valley region of New York on Sunday afternoon and was caught in the act by a YouTube poster.

Witness accounts describe a young male throwing a black disc on stage during Akon's set and hitting the singer. Akon immediately had the audience point out who threw it and sent his security personnel to fetch the teen. Akon then pulled the teen up on stage, hoisted him over his head and threw him into the crowd. The fan has not yet been identified.

Paris Hilton enters jail

Cuffed and stuffed. Cuffed and stuffed.

Paris Hilton seized on the MTV Movie Awards for her last big public soiree before serving a 23-day prison term. The 26-year-old Hilton appeared at the event in Los Angeles just hours before she checked into the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood at around 11:30 p.m. Sunday. She's expected to serve 23 days for violating her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case. Hilton surrendered to sheriff's deputies after making a surprise appearance at the MTV Movie Awards. "I am trying to be strong right now," she told reporters on the red carpet. "I'm ready to face my sentence. Even though this is a really hard time, I have my family, my friends, and my fans to support me, and that's really helpful."

Hilton then headed over to the all-women's facility in Lynwood, where she was booked, fingerprinted, and issued a jail uniform, sheriff's officials told the Associated Press. She also was given her first meal: cereal, bread, and juice. She does not yet have a cellmate in the "special needs" unit of the prison, which is separate from most of its 2,200 inmates and contains 12 two-person cells reserved for police officers, public officials, celebrities, and other high-profile inmates.

Rihanna tops charts, rocks MTV

Rihanna Rihanna

Sporting a bob haircut and a Dolce & Gabbana S&M-style corset dress, Rihanna performed her hit song "Umbrella" with Jay-Z last night on the MTV Movie Awards. The song currently sits atop the singles charts in the US and the UK, and the 19-year-old singer's new album, Good Girl Gone Bad, hits stores tomorrow.

The MTV performance featured showers of sparks from the sky and a beefed-up version of the song, including plenty of guitar. Rihanna also showed off a beefed-up physique, telling People, "It wasn't so much losing weight as being fit and toned and healthy. I just didn't feel great. Now I'm working out and trying to eat healthy. That's making me lose weight without even thinking about it. I'm not intentionally trying to get skinny."

Lupe Fiasco's partner sentenced

Lupe Fiasco Lupe Fiasco

Although he has escaped criminal charges or direct implication of his own, Lupe Fiasco's longtime business partner has been sentenced to 44 years in prison on drug charges, according to the Chicago Tribune. Charles Patton, who mentored the Chicago rapper to his impressive debut album, was caught with 6 kilos of heroin--worth about $1 million on the street--in 2003. He was alleged to have used money made from record deals to buy heroin and turned it around for street sales in Chicago.

Prosecutors did not present evidence of a link between Patton's drug dealing and the recording company he owned with Fiasco--real name Wasalu Jaco--the connection was implied, authorities told the paper. Patton is thought to have been dealing since the late 1980s, years before he and Fiasco launched their music careers.

Ra Ra Riot drummer found dead

John Pike John Pike

An after-show party in New England apparently turned deadly for John Pike, the drummer for up-and-coming Syracuse, NY-based indie pop outfit Ra Ra Riot. Pike's body was found in the waters of Buzzards Bay, Mass., on Sunday afternoon. He was 23 years old.

Pike had been missing since early Saturday morning, when the band went to a party in Fairhaven, Mass., following a show in nearby Providence, Rhode Island. Pike went missing from the party, and a search party was sent out when he didn't turn up Saturday afternoon. The band has yet to make any statement or announcement about their future.

Since the turn of the century, every American summer has seemed to produce one or two Caribbean-styled dance-pop hit sensations, and the summer of 2005 was no different, as the relentless dancehall-lite booming rhythms of Rihanna's "Pon de Replay" seemed as omnipresent as sunshine.
