Rapper steals phone, calls Eminem
Eminem broke into the rap game by battling emcees for years and shopping demos. Kyle Spratt, an aspiring rapper from Windsor, Ontario, hoped to do so by stealing Eminem's ex-wife's cell phone and calling the multiplatinum rapper. According to WXYZ-TV in Detroit, Spratt stole Kim Mathers' cell phone while she was playing bingo with her mother at the hall where Spratt worked.
Spratt then used the phone to look up Eminem's phone number and call the rapper to pitch his demos. "I just got fired for taking that phone, I'd take any risk for my music," Spratt told the station. Spratt said that Eminem answered but pretended that he was someone else. And then he called the cops. "Bro I'm not f***ing dumb," Spratt said as he recounted the conversation in a posting on his Web site. Spratt then turned his recording of the conversation into a song called "Slim Sellout."
Police ID kid Akon tossed
Police have identified the concertgoer hurled off the stage by singer Akon during a weekend concert as a 15-year-old local resident, according to a report in the Poughkeepsie Journal. The teen's mother contacted police with her son's name, but authorities aren't releasing that information. Police have been looking for the concertgoer since Monday, to see if he wanted to pursue criminal charges against the singer, who plucked the teen from the crowd and hurled him back into it after he was hit with an object on stage.
Since he is under 16, the teen's mom would have to file the complaint against Akon. Police told the Journal that talks have been held within the police department regarding the possibility of questioning Akon about the incident, which happened at WSPK-FM's annual KFEST concert at Dutchess Stadium.

Diddy bested Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein in doing so. NPD Group released its annual report on fragrance sales, with Unforgivable the top-selling fragrance of 2007 to date. Unforgivable Woman will launch this September in conjunction with the Sean John women's clothing line.
Stones jam traffic in Belgium
The Rolling Stones' European tour kicked off in Belgium to a big crowd, rave reviews, and a massive traffic jam. The Associated Press reported today that some 33,000 fans showed up yesterday in the town of Werchter for the band's show there, but many of them had to endure a 30-mile traffic jam that stretched well into the band's first set. The tour will feature some 30 shows across Europe, including performances in Belgrade, Serbia, and the Stones' first show in St. Petersburg, Russia.
"Lots of new territories. Every show is different," Jagger told The Associated Press. "Europe's a very diverse place...and so every time you get to the next city it tends to be a different language and different culture. Different this, that, so for me touring Europe in the summer is a really fun event."
Jack White blasts Chicago radio DJ
A DJ at Chicago's Q101 decided to play the White Stripes' upcoming Icky Thump album, which hits stores June 19, in its entirety last week, drawing the ire of Jack White, who called the DJ from Spain to blast her for doing so. The station did not have approval from the band or Warner Bros. Records to play the album, and the version of the album the station aired was not a promo copy, but YouSendIt file sent to the station by a fan. White called Electra, the DJ who played the record, and ripped into her, blasting her for hurting the music industry by playing a full album without permission and surely leading to recorded copies of it showing on file-sharing services.
Report: Blur to reunite
The much-rumored Blur reunion--with guitarist Graham Coxon in tow--is on, according to UK newspaper The Sun. The Britpop stars will start recording new material in November, the paper reported. "They've all had lots on, with solo projects, cartoon bands, political campaigns, and farming," a source told the paper. "But by the end of summer, their plates will be clear. They'll go into the studio together in November."
