Famous celebrity is taken from courtroom screaming and crying and ordered to serve out the remainder of her 45-day sentence.
Paris Hilton, a woman long famous for being a professional celebrity, is becoming even more famous because of a saga that has seen her sentenced to jail for 45 days, credited for half of it, sent home after less than four days because of an undisclosed "medical condition," and ordered back to jail.
Today, with paparazzi swarming and news helicopters hovering above, Hilton was taken to court from her Hollywood Hills home and ordered to return to jail for the duration of her original 45-day sentence. The 26-year-old Hilton Hotel heiress, who has also dabbled in movies, TV, and music, was reportedly screaming and crying as she left the courthouse.
TMZ.com reported that Hilton plans to appeal the latest ruling, although her legal team has yet to make an announcement as such.
"It's not right!" shouted the weeping Hilton as she left court, according to the Associated Press. "Mom!" she called out to her mother in the audience.
Hilton, who was brought to court in handcuffs in a sheriff's car, came into the courtroom disheveled and weeping, hair askew, sans makeup, wearing a gray fuzzy sweatshirt over slacks. She reportedly cried throughout the hearing, her body shook constantly, and she dabbed at her eyes. Several times she turned to her parents, seated behind her in the courtroom, and mouthed, "I love you."
Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer, who originally sentenced Hilton to 45 days in jail, said the Los Angeles County Sheriff's department, which runs the jail, did not have the right to send Hilton home to serve out the remainder of her sentence because of an undisclosed medical condition.
Sauer also noted that he had heard that a private psychiatrist visited Hilton in jail and he wondered if that person played a role in deciding her medical needs.
Hilton's path to jail began September 7, when she failed a sobriety test after police saw her weaving down a street in her Mercedes-Benz on what she said was a late-night run to a hamburger stand.
She pleaded no contest to reckless driving and was sentenced to 36 months' probation, alcohol education, and $1,500 in fines.
In the months that followed she was stopped twice by officers who discovered her driving with a suspended license. The second stop landed her in Sauer's courtroom, where he sentenced her to jail.
