Score for surefire blockbuster to include new tracks from Linkin Park and Smashing Pumpkins; hits stores July 3.

When Megatron and Optimus Prime square off in the upcoming Transformers movie, they will have some heavy sounds over which to do so.

Linkin Park, Smashing Pumpkins, Disturbed, and HIM are all on the soundtrack for the much-hyped, surefire blockbuster, which will be in US theaters July 2.

The disc will also include the Transformers theme recorded by New Orleans rock band Mute Math, as well as tracks from the Used, Taking Back Sunday, and Idiot Pilot.

Despite the generally heavier fare, the Goo Goo Dolls make yet another soundtrack appearance, as do LA-based indie hip-hop group Styles of Beyond.

The Transformers soundtrack:

1. Linkin Park - "What I've Done"

2. Smashing Pumpkins - "Doomsday Clock"

3. Disturbed - "This Moment"

4. Goo Goo Dolls - "Before It's Too Late (Sam and Mikaela's Theme)"

5. The Used - "Pretty Handsome Awkward"

6. HIM - "Passion's Killing Floor"

7. Taking Back Sunday - "What's It Feel Like to Be a Ghost?"

8. Styles of Beyond - "Second to None"

9. Armor for Sleep - "End of the World"

10. Idiot Pilot - "Retina and the Sky"

11. Julien-K - "Technical Difficulties"

12. Mute Math - "Transformers Theme"

Old-school hip-hop, traditional classic rock, and spooling electronic vibes were the initial factors behind the building of the alternative metal quintet, Linkin Park. The band's southern Californian musical roots were also an underlying basis, for drummer Rob Bourdon, guitarist Brad Delson, and MC/vocalist Mike Shinoda formed a tight friendship...

The Smashing Pumpkins The Smashing Pumpkins

Of all the major alternative rock bands of the early '90s, the Smashing Pumpkins were the group least influenced by traditional underground rock. Lead guitarist/songwriter Billy Corgan fashioned an amalgam of progressive rock, heavy metal, goth rock, psychedelia, and dream pop, creating a layered, powerful sound driven by swirling, distorted...

Disturbed Disturbed

Heavy metal band Disturbed came together through the matching of a band with a singer. Longtime friends Dan Donegan (guitar), Mike Wengren (drums), and Fuzz (bass) played together in Chicago for some time before hooking up with singer David Draiman around 1997. Draiman had grown up in a religious family against which he rebelled, being expelled...

Perhaps if the cut-'n'-paste remix record Reanimation hadn't appeared as a stopgap measure in the summer of 2002, Linkin Park's second record, Meteora, would merely have been seen as a continuation of their 2000 debut, Hybrid Theory, instead of a retreat to familiar ground. Then again, Reanimation wasn't much more than a way to buy time (along...

Disturbed
It started in 2000 with "Down with the Sickness." Disturbed's thick, rhythmic take on alt-metal was perfect music for stalking bloody zombies, and vocalist David Draiman's jaw-snapping Pavlovian grunts made the trigger fingers of first-person shooters itch. There were threads of other groups in the sound -- Pantera's wrenching power, Slipknot,...
