Ad Rock, MCA, and Mike D to play seven "regular" shows this summer, with more intimate "gala" shows on the way.

After dominating the Sasquatch festival last month, the Beastie Boys are currently in Spain, eating paella and sharing their new material with siesta lovers of all stripes.

But Ad Rock, MCA, and Mike D had promised plenty more shows in the US this summer, and delivered in part today, announcing a seven-date trek of outdoor venues in August. The run will kick off at the Festival Pier in Philadelphia and wind up at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, California. In between, they'll play two shows in their native New York City and make stops in Boston, Denver, and Santa Barbara, California.

Those shows are all dubbed as "regular" shows in the band's vernacular. The trio promises to unveil another batch of "gala" events soon.

In a statement, the Beasties said their "gala" events "will be more like quality time, our time, just you and the band sitting by a fire on a tropical beach late at night being serenaded with love songs. These shows are for people that are into our weird stuff, so if you want to get weird together, this is your call."

The "gala" events will resemble their first set at Sasquatch, with a heavier dose of instrumentation and less straight hip hop, while the regular shows will be more like their second set at Sasquatch.

The Beasties also stressed that attendees of the gala events "dress to impress, wear a suit, a tie, a dress, a gown or whatever you feel dressed up in. AND PLEASE leave your cargo shorts, Birkenstocks and t-shirts at home, this is not that kind of party."

The Beastie Boys' new instrumental album The Mix Up hits stores June 26.

As the first white rap group of any importance, the Beastie Boys received the scorn of critics and strident hip-hop musicians, who accused them of cultural pirating, especially since they began as a hardcore punk group in 1981. But the Beasties weren't pirating -- they treated rap as part of a post-punk musical underground, where the...

Six years is a long time, about one-and-a-half generations in pop music and a fairly large chunk out of anyone's life, two sentiments that come into play on the Beastie Boys' sixth album, 2004's To the 5 Boroughs. When the Beasties last delivered an album, it was in the summer of 1998 as the Clinton impeachment scandal was heating up, and just...
