Multitalented rapper and actor will release music he wrote and recorded for the Cartoon Network show he cocreated.
Hip-hop's Renaissance man never stops working.
Andre Benjamin--better known as Andre 3000 and one half of Outkast--is set to release an album of music he wrote and recorded for Class of 3000, the animated series he cocreated for the Cartoon Network. The 14-track album, Class of 3000: Music Volume I, hits stores July 3 from La Face.
Class of 3000 chronicles the life of the Andre-voiced Sunny Bridges, who gives up his flourishing music career to teach a group of gifted musical prodigies at his alma mater, the Westley School for the Performing Arts.
The music is what one would expect from a cartoon created by Andre 3000: big beats, jazzy melodies, and lots of gospel-tinged, multipart harmonies, with dialogue from Bridges and his students scattered throughout.
The show just kicked off its second season, with new episodes airing Thursdays at 7 p.m.
Benjamin is reportedly set to star in a biopic about Sammy Davis Jr. and is also costarring in Semi-Pro, a Will Ferrell comedy set in the American Basketball Association.
