Zune to hold "Live at the BBQ" shows

Microsoft's digital music play hopes to generate buzz with live performances from Common, Mos Def, E-40, Clipse, UGK, and others.

Microsoft is hoping some of the top names in hip-hop will generate some buzz for its Zune digital music efforts this summer.

The software giant is putting on live shows in Los Angeles, Chicago, and NYC under the moniker "Live at the BBQ," the name of the Main Source song that helped launch the career of one of rap's top emcees, Nas.

Zune has not said who will be playing at each date, but Common, Mos Def, Clipse, Cham, David Banner, UGK, Large Professor, Collie Buddz, E-40, and Joel Ortiz are all on the bill.

Zune said that it will announce additional artists soon, as well as specific dates and venues.

Invitations will be sent to fans from the Zune and hip-hop communities, and more information can be found on Zune.net closer to the event dates.

"'Live at the BBQ' is helping to bring hip-hop back to a golden age where records were produced and iconic artists rose directly out of their local communities," UGK's Bun B said in a statement. "It's a chance to put singles, ring tones, and industry hype aside and just get a bunch of our friends together for some great music and BBQ--let's eat."

Zune is pretty tight. I love the iPod, but Zune has a few things going for it that the iPod doesn't. Zune has a larger screen. I like that because it's way better for viewing videos. Who wants to watch a video on a small screen? I'd rather not. I need to get a Zune. I attempted to win one, but some girl snatched it from my finger tips. Sad. I know. Well, I really hope that this works out well. Seems really fun. There must be lots of good food, too.
