Britney posts drivel on Web site

Britney's Web site. Britney's Web site.

The Web sites of most pop stars are seemingly controlled by hired hands who manage an artist's interaction with fans and Web surfers carefully. But as been made abundantly clear for much of the past few years, Britney Spears is not your average pop star. Since her rehab stint, the pop star has taken to making spontaneous posts to her Web site, often littered with grammatical errors and full of stream-of-consciousness blather.

In today's edition, Spears wrote, "I apologize to the pap[arazzi] for a stunt that was done 4 months ago regarding an umbrella. I was preparing my character for a roll in a movie where the husband never plays his part so they switch accidentally. I take all my rolls very seriously and got a little carried away. Unfortunately I didn't get the part." Britney Spears, preparing for dinners rolls and taking them quite seriously.

Avril Lavigne accused of song thievery

The Rubinoos The Rubinoos

An obscure 1970s power pop group has accused Avril Lavigne of thievery, filing a copy infringement lawsuit against the Canadian pop princess. In a complaint filed this week in US District Court in San Francisco, a pair of songwriters in The Rubinoos alleged that Lavigne's hit song "Girlfriend" steals the hook of the group's 1978 song "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend."

The Rubinoos' song features the poppy chorus: "Hey, hey, you, you, I wanna be your boyfriend," much like Lavigne's refrain, on which she sings: "Hey, hey, you, you, I don't like your girlfriend." The filing comes on the heels of songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk's claim in a magazine interview that Lavigne used a song she wrote without her permission.

Doherty and Moss have tabloids in a tizzy

Doherty and Kate Moss. Doherty and Kate Moss.

Just days after pleading guilty to drug possession charges and being ordered back to rehab, Baby Shambles frontman Pete Doherty is reportedly single and homeless. UK tabloids reported this week that Doherty's supermodel girlfriend has kicked him out of her house after claims of infidelity. Moss has even changed the locks on her home, hired a moving van to remove Doherty's belongings, and hired a security firm to keep him away from her property, according to The Daily Mail. Doherty and Moss have had a on-again, off-again relationship for years, while Doherty has continually battled drug problems.

Vanity Fair tracks down Sly Stone

Sly Stone in Vanity Fair. Sly Stone in Vanity Fair.

Nearly silent since his brief and bizarre appearance at the Grammy Awards in 2006, Sly Stone has given an interview to Vanity Fair magazine. In it, the reclusive soul man reveals a number of odd tidbits about himself, including the fact that he loves custom choppers, uses baby oil regularly to keep his hands soft, and sustained a major neck injury after falling off a cliff in his backyard. "I had a plate of food in my hand," Stone said on the incident. "And when I landed, I still had a plate of food in my hand. That's the God-lovin' truth. I did not drop a bean."

Hanson offers digital freebies for presale

Hanson Hanson

Hanson is enticing fans with some free DRM-free music. The rock trio is set to release its fourth studio album, The Walk, on July 24 on its own 3CG Records, and has launched a presale promotion to promote it. Fans who buy the album prior to the release date will receive instant digital downloads of the album through the band's Web site. Those downloads will be DRM-free, meaning they won't have any restrictions tied to them. On the day of release, fans will then receive their hard copy of the CD.

Hanson is also launching a contest offering fans the chance to win a personalized song written about them by Hanson. "We are all music fans first so we know that inviting people to get a hold of the record early can only excite and motivate," drummer Zac Hanson said in a statement. "If we are doing something we think is unique it is only natural to encourage our fans to help spread the word."

Oh my. Is anybody supposed to believe that Britney was rehearsing for a role in a movie? Who would want HER in any movie of theirs anyway?! Nobody would watch it and critics would predict bad reviews on it before it even went to DVD (assuming that it wouldn't be good enough to make it to the big screen). "Oh, I was taking my role too seriously." Bite me- nobody believes those lies. I'm not at all surprised that her site is infested with grammatical errors. She's not the brightest Crayon™ in the box. If a director is desperate enough to want her in a movie, she'll have to stand up straight throughout the entire movie or her wig will fall off. Lol. As for Pete Doherty, he doesn't deserve any kind of girlfriend, and should find himself a good homeless shelter.

Poor Sly, sacrificing his life and health for a plate of beans. This mad eccentric played a live show for all of 15 minutes recently in San Jose, and is now going to tour Europe. Good luck catching him at his own show!

Sad how one of the truly mighty and talented has fallen.

@iMuffins

No, Avril has always been a poppy sensation teen bop sellout. That's what pop music is.

As far as Britney: prime example why your daughters shouldn't look up to her. White trash AND stupid.

Sure, Britney was just rehearsing for a movie role (that's "role," not "roll," Britney). That was Winona Ryder's excuse when she shoplifted all those clothes from Saks and no one believed her either. And what is with the courts always sentencing Pete Doherty to rehab? What are they basing their decision on? His countless other times in rehab? Those were certainly very successful.

Britney wants her fans to name her album for her. The names they've come up with are moronic, but I'm not which is worse: the idea that people who have no idea what the songs are about or what the musical content of album is going get to decide the name or the fact that a name like "OMG is like lindsay lohan like okay like" might actual be fitting to the quality of the music on the CD.

Avril's a sellout now =( She used to be pretty good, too.

Britney Spears Britney Spears

More than any other single artist, Britney Spears was the driving force behind the return of teen pop in the late '90s. The blockbuster success of the Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys certainly paved the way for her own commercial breakthrough, but Spears didn't just become a star -- she was a bona fide pop phenomenon. Not only did she sell...

Avril Lavigne Avril Lavigne

Wild child Avril Lavigne hit big in summer 2002 with her spiky-fun debut song, "Complicated," shifting pop music into a different direction. Lavigne, who was 17 at the time, didn't seem concerned with the glamour of the TRL-dominated pop world and such confidence allowed her star power to soar. The middle of three children in small-town Napanee,...

Baby Shambles Baby Shambles

Formed in spring 2004, just as the Libertines were beginning to fall apart, Baby Shambles became the main vessel for Pete Doherty's poetic, chaotic rock when he was ousted from the Libertines for his increasing drug use and erratic behavior. Baby Shambles released their self-titled debut 7" in April 2004, and settled on the lineup of Doherty,...

Sly & the Family Stone Sly & the Family Stone

Sly & the Family Stone harnessed all of the disparate musical and social trends of the late '60s, creating a wild, brilliant fusion of soul, rock, R&B, psychedelia, and funk that broke boundaries down without a second thought. Led by Sly Stone, the Family Stone was comprised of men and women, and blacks and whites, making the band the first...

Hanson Hanson

Sounding like a revamped Jackson 5 for the '90s, Hanson came storming out of Tulsa, OK, in 1997 blessed with photogenic looks and a surprisingly infectious sense of melody. Hanson had a sunny pop sense that stood in direct contrast to the gloomy grunge that dominated the '90s, yet they also arrived with hip credentials -- a handful of the cuts...

Hanson
Growing up is hard to do, particularly if you do it in public. Hanson found this out when their second album, 2000's This Time Around, failed to gather much attention, let alone a hit the size of 1997's "Mmm-Bop," even though it was a solid step forward. Faced with lack of success and therefore a lack of support from their label, Hanson opted...
