Following months of turmoil, American Idol alum will reportedly make a pop album.
Kelly Clarkson might not blow up, but she'll definitely go pop.
The American Idol alum will reportedly relent to industry pressure and release a pop album in 2008, capping months of turmoil over her decision to eschew pop songs in favor of self-penned tracks for her most recent album, My December.
Citing industry sources, Fox News reported today that Clarkson was convinced by her new manager Narvel Blackstock to make a pop album for release in 2008 with songs selected by music mogul Clive Davis and his team.
The decision caps a turbulent period that saw Clarkson quarrel with Davis over My December, insist on releasing the album with all self-penned songs, fire her manager over the dispute, and cancel a lengthy tour in support of the album because of poor ticket sales.
My December hasn't fared horribly in sales, having sold 850,000 copies in the US since its release on June 26, according to Nielsen Soundscan. But it paled in comparison to the multimillion sales figures for her major label debut, Breakaway.
In a post on her Web site earlier this week, Clarkson issued an apology for the dispute and said it was blown out of proportion.
