I have been wondering, would it be concidered Metal?
I know it has the word Metal in the name, and I think it IS metal, but it seems like some people are against the thought of it being metal.

So I pretty much want to ask... Is it Metal? Do you like it?
Is there any real reason why its heavily criticized?

Metalcore is not metal because it has too many Punk influences.

    And I don't like it.

What you are f*cking stupid...dude Metalcore is at times as heavy or more heavy then say thrash or doom. Listen to All Shall Perish, The Black Dahlia Murder, The Red Chord, Mortal Treason, Sikth, etc...I think people are just closed minded jerk offs that can't accept anything but the same old crap. People that desipise Metalcore, haven't gave it a chance and hated it before they listened to it because they see punk/hardcore/emo kids that like some of the bands. Get out of you HS days, and grow up, who cares who likes it

Because Thrash and Doom aren't heavy.

Actually I've heard alot of metalcore, and it all sounds incoherent. Anger just for the sake of Anger.

Metalcore is not metal. In fact it's making emo and punk kids think that they are 'metal heads'. Hence, people who listen to real metal don't like it.

I despise most Metalcore. It just all sounds the same, like hardcore. But, I do love KsE, probably because they have more death/melodeath influences than hardcore influences. And Howard Jones pwns.

I listen to all kinds of Metal, from Metalcore to Technical Death...None of it is bad, seriously, the only bands I don't like are because of vocals but I still respect Viking and Black even tho I don't like it. Metalcore doesn't sound the same, you just don't like it so you don't listen to it closely so you think it sounds the same. You ask a person who doesn't listen to Metal, and they would say all Metal sounds the same, when you know thats untrue, its the same with Metalcore with you guys, trust me on that.

If you want more Metal Influced listen to All Shall Perish, The Black Dahlia Murder, As Blood Runs Black, Job For A Cowboy, Neaera, Beneath The Masscre, Glass Casket, Between the Buried and Me, Unearth...I could go on and on

Metalcore is a mis-mash of styles and it shows when you see a live video. The vocals seem to be from a different song to the music.

    Trivium is metalcore-ish.

I agree with pebs, most people hate Metalcore because it's new, and don't give it a chance, and they define metal by black/death metal.

A lot of people hate it because it's so popular, and they treat metal as a way of life, and it has to be udnerground. Usually it's just the losers who think they can dictate what Metal is and expect everyone who is a "tr00" metal head to follow guidelines.

    I like it.

Yep, Those elisists piss me more off than Noobs that are a scared of non Nu-Metal Bands, because Elistists are the reason Metal is not bigger, or gets more respect. Who wants to listen to music, where you peers just bash you because you listen to start up metal...Metal takes time to grow, its not like Rap and Pop where it just sticks in you head of the first listen, its way more complicated.

There is not a finite amount of metal around, people can play in whatever genre they want.

    Exactley.

In the words of Schuldiner... "I miss the days when people could listen to Priest and Maiden to Slayer and Venom"

I hate that when someone loves a type of metal, then the elitests come in and start saying "That isnt metal! Burzum is metal you f00l!" Tchyea, like someone can dictate what is and isnt metal...
