rik maclean makes ambient music as mara's torment. He began toying with sounds and song structure in 1997, the results of which would appear on his debut release "Vanities". Soon after rik released "The Penny Collector", a collection of moody tracks which helped to increase his fan base. The follow up, "dreams like mine", earned him radio play all over the world. "across for show..." expanded on many of the ideas addressed in previous work, and served as a testimony to maclean's growth as a musician. A collection of songs inspired by physical and mental boundaries, "the barrier of skin", came next, a personal and heartfelt work that received many positive reviews from around the world. 2006 sees maclean at work on "the calender project" with plans to release a new disc each month for a year. Work also continues on the new disc "cause and effect", as well as a new version of the "lost" disc "the last night is the hardest".
