Mustard Seed

The alternative CCM band Mustard Seed was formed on the campus of Illinois' Greenville College in 1994 by singers/guitarists Joel Pierce and Clifton Poe in collaboration with bassist David Jahn; drummer Moises Padilla joined the group soon after, followed by the addition of lead vocalist Chrissy Curl. Before the year was out Poe exited, and Mustard Seed continued on as a foursome; Curl left in early 1995, and after a temporary hiatus the group reformed with new vocalist Shane Matsumoto and bassist James Webb, replacing Jahn. Padilla and Matsumoto both left in the spring of 1996, allowing for the additions of singer Sara Hundley and drummer Neil Kissack; after recording their debut LP Small Splendid, Mustard Seed welcomed second guitarist Jim Wells. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
