Stars come out to see reunited group perform in advance of its 35-date tour, which kicks off Sept. 27 in Charlotte.
Either David Lee Roth doesn't know Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde or he has already reverted to his rock-god status of yesteryear.
At the last of four secret rehearsals a reunited Van Halen held in Los Angeles on Sunday night, Wylde, who was joined at the event by fellow rock stars Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine and Metallica's Kirk Hammett, attempted to climb onstage from the front row but was held back by security.
At that point, Roth walked over to Wylde and said, "Nah, nah, nah. Are you in show biz? Then get off the stage. Get off the f***ing stage."
Guitarist Eddie Van Halen, whose rehab stint delayed the band's tour and who Wylde has called the greatest guitarist of all time, acknowledged Wylde and then tore into a guitar solo before an audience of nearly 500 people.
It was a signature moment for Roth (see video below) in what many who have attended the rehearsals say is sure to be an amazing tour. The band has added several dates since its initial announcement last month, and shows in Detroit and Charlotte and two in Toronto have sold out.
The tour will be the band's first to feature Roth since the motormouthed frontman left the group in 1985. Ironically, the tour will not feature the group's original lineup, because Van Halen has replaced original bassist Michael Anthony with Eddie's 16-year-old son, Wolfgang Van Halen.
