Episode Fifteen
A hugely influential trio from Long Island, De La Soul have been releasing next-level hip-hop for nearly two decades now. While they havent had a mainstream hit for a minute, they continue to put out quality records and rock shows around the world. Here they are performing their signature single "Me, Myself & I," live at Club 6 in San Francisco.
One of the sickest emcees on the mic today, Kamackeris (aka Kwite Def) is finally releasing his long awaited solo debut Artz and Craftz. He's been making moves for many years now; in the mid-nineties, his group Dirt Nation scored a hit with "Khadijah," then he co-starred on MF Doom's monumental Operation: Doomsday album, followed by his show-stealing turn on the Monsta Island Czars' full-length Escape From Monsta Island!. We sat down with the New York rhyme veteran at Mindbenda Studios in Jamaica, Queens, to discuss his lengthy career and brand new LP.
Though they may be languishing on the shelf over at G-Unit (after a similar stint at Roc-A-Fella), Brooklyn rabblerousers M.O.P. continue to carry the torch for unrelentingly raw New York rap. Never tripping about R&B collabos or attempting to follow any sort of industry trends, Billy Danze and Lil Fame are just as gutter sounding now as they were back in the day. This is the video that really kicked the door open, the aptly titled 1994 anthem "How About Some Hardcore."
Enjoy the show!
