Acclaimed rockers nab nods for artist of the year, most downloaded and blogged-about song, and "Woodie" alumni.
MTV's college channel unveiled its nominations for the 2007 mtvU Woodie Awards, and did so with the obligatory serving of penis innuendo.
The Shins lead the pack with three nominations, including Woodie of the Year and the Alumni Woodie, as well as the Viral Woodie, which honors the most downloaded and blogged-about song.
Modest Mouse, Gym Class Heroes, Lily Allen, Justice, Linkin Park, and the Academy Is... all nabbed two nominations apiece, with Amy Winehouse, Common, Gym Class Heroes, and Lily Allen all joining the Shins for potential Woodie of the Year honors.
College students can vote for winners from now until Nov. 2 at mtvU. The winners will be awarded Nov. 8 at New York's Roseland Ballroom, and the ceremony will be broadcast on mtvU and mtvU.com a week later.
The Arcade Fire, Lil Wayne, Bright Eyes, Amy Winehouse, the Knife, Common, Klaxons, M.I.A., Spoon, CSS, the Rapture, TV on the Radio, Thom Yorke, and Paramore are also up for awards this year.
New for 2007 is the "best music on campus" Woodie, which will be awarded to the artist that earns the most votes and streams on BestMusiconCampus.com for the next six weeks. Two finalists will be flown to New York to appear on the broadcast.
