Portland lit rockers call off 28 shows of its "Long and Short of It" tour but don't disclose which member is sick.
Fans of The Decemberists won't be able to get their "Long and Short of It" fix.
The Portland, Oregon-based lit rockers have canceled the rest of their fall tour, which was to alternate between shows full of their shorter songs and longer, more prog-rock-influenced tracks. The group cited an illness to an undisclosed band member for the cancellation.
The band, which has toured relentlessly behind its 2006 album, The Crane Wife, canceled 28 remaining shows, including those in New York, Boston, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Washington, DC.
"One of our band members has been ill for a while but we thought all would be well in time for these tour dates," the band said in a statement on its Web site. "After a couple shows, though, it has become clear that the illness is much worse than we had initially realized. We need to return home so our friend can mend."
The statement did not say which band member is sick, and the band's record label hasn't divulged additional details.
The band apologized to its fans for the decision, calling the illness an "extreme situation," but said that "no plans are being made to reschedule the dates."
Ticket holders can receive refunds at the point of purchase.
