It is difficult to conceive of modern German music without singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Blixa Bargeld. As a founding member of Einstürzende Neubauten, Blixa Bargeld played a prominent role in the evolution of industrial music's sonic and social possibilities. Famous for their custom-built instruments and intense live performances, Einstürzende Neubauten developed a mass cult audience, and continues to do so some 27 years after the group's birth.
As if being a member of Einstürzende Neubauten is not impressive enough, Blixa Bargeld also played with The Birthday Party during the band's last year together in 1983, and then went on to play guitar with Nick Cave's post-Birthday Party group, the Bad Seeds, until his departure in 2003.
MP3.com editor Chris Rolls was fortunate enough to meet with Blixa Bargeld on a chilled fall day at the Legion of Honor in San Francisco. Blixa provided a three-part video interview that covers a wide array of topics, including Einstürzende Neubauten's last album Alles Wieder Offen, the music industry, Berlin with the Wall intact, and much more.
