Rumors abound that festival could be linchpin for a 2008 reunion tour; Metallica also reportedly on board.
Ten months ago, The Police used a much-hyped Whiskey A Go Go set to announce a full-fledged reunion tour, with the Bonnaroo festival in Tennessee serving as a centerpiece for the first batch of shows.
Now they are swimming in a pile of money with the year's top-grossing tour.
Is Led Zeppelin looking to do the same?
That's the word from music industry newsletter The Lefsetz Letter, which quotes an anonymous tipster as saying, "Zeppelin just confirmed for Bonnaroo. They can't officially announce until after the London gig so pass it on! Also Metallica is confirmed on the bill too!"
An anonymous tip to an industry newsletter certainly doesn't qualify as the official line, but it only adds fuel to the widespread rumors that Zeppelin is interested in turning its one-off tribute show for Ahmet Ertegun on December 10 into a full reunion tour.
The Bonnaroo set would be Led Zeppelin's first in the US since July 24, 1977. Neither the band nor the festival have commented on the report.
