Windy City rockers to play five nights in their hometown, promising to cover "the band's complete recorded works."

Before Wilco launches into its first tour of 2008, the Chicago-based band is going to give its hometown a career-spanning gift.

The band will play a five-night run at the Windy City's Riviera Theatre, and those won't be regular sets by a long shot. Through the course of the five shows, set for Feb. 15-16 and Feb. 18-20, Wilco has promised to explore "the band's complete recorded works."

"Over the five nights we will attempt the 'complete Wilco' and try to clear out the dusty corners of the catalog that we haven't attended to in a while," frontman Jeff Tweedy said in a statement, promising a "distinct, one-of-a-kind set list each night."

The Chicago stand will serve as the kickoff for a short North American tour, which heads through the Midwest, the East Coast, and the South before concluding on March 9 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Wilco got some Grammy love last week when its Sky Blue Sky was nominated for a best rock album.

Wilco's 2008 tour dates:

Feb. 15-16, 18-20: Chicago (Riviera Theatre)

Feb. 22: Cleveland (Lakewood Civic Auditorium)

Feb. 23: Philadelphia (Tower Theatre)

Feb. 24: New Haven, Conn. (Schubert Theatre)

Damn, Wilco is one of the best live bands around right now. I'd go all 5 nights if I could.

It's hard not to wonder if Wilco's breakthrough 2002 release, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, would have been such a critical success and so eagerly embraced by the indie rock community if it hadn't become such a cause célèbre thanks to the band being unceremoniously dropped by Reprise Records, and then signed by Nonesuch after the album had become...
