A Tribe Called Quest - People’s Instinctive Travels… (1989)

" It was just them having fun, it was just so smooth, but at the same time, they were playing with words…Q-Tip and Common are basically the reasons I started rapping period."

Common - Can I Borrow A Dollar? (1992)

"’Breaker 1/9,’ that song, I used to listen to it all the time…that album was dope to me. "

Prince - Controversy (1981)

"That was my step-dude’s, he was playing a lot of Prince…I listened to that all the time, I’m definitely a Prince head."

The Roots - Do You Want More?!!!??! (1995)

"It’s a funny story, Nelly had this group St. Lunatics…Ali used to cut my hair and he hipped me to The Roots and D’Angelo, so I can say that somebody out of Nelly’s camp influenced me on some music [laughs]."

Kraftwerk - Trans-Europe Express (1977)

"That came from my uncle and his friends. My uncle was like, ‘oh well, you think Afrika Bambaataa was this, then check out this’…that’s how I got into it."
