Rapper vows to fight citation, targets March 11 for release of latest record, Ego Trippin'.
For Snoop Dogg, a weed wrap was the latest case that they gave him, but the rapper plans to fight the charge.
The rapper's attorney told the New York Post this week that Snoop--real name Cordozar Calvin Broadus Jr.--was issued a desk appearance ticket outside a Manhattan nightclub Wednesday night for marijuana possession.
"We are contesting the ticket," lawyer Donald Etra told the newspaper, emphasizing that Snoop was not arrested. Police have not yet clarified the charge publicly.
Snoop Dogg's latest run-in with law--he's managed to avoid jail time despite two airport arrests in 2006 and a third dustup with police at Heathrow Airport in London--comes as he gets ready to release his latest studio album.
Dubbed Ego Trippin', the album will hit stores March 11 through Doggystyle/Geffen. It has already generated a ton of hype for its first single, "Sensual Seduction," which features Snoop singing with the help of AutoTune software and a voice box. The video for the song is a throwback to 1980s R&B videos.
The album includes collaborations with producer Teddy Riley and artist Whitey Ford (aka House of Pain rapper Everlast), and is said to includes some unexpected sounds for the West Coast rapper. QDT Muzic--an entity composed of DJ Quik, Snoop, and Riley--is responsible for overseeing the entire album
"I named the album Ego Trippin' because after staying relevant for 16 years, I can afford to take chances and have some fun," Snoop Dogg said in a statement. "I always made music to win in my neighborhood but after all these years I needed to do something bigger--I had to get out of my usual gangster zone without losing who I am, this time around I am going to win worldwide."
