Pharcyde - Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde (1992)

"When I heard that album, it was so different and so good that I was just captivated by it. I killed that album, back and forth. At that time in the 90s, it really opened up a way to use jazz in hip-hop. Tribe [Called Quest] had obviously done that too, but this was a different way of doing it."

Everything But the Girl - Walking Wounded (1996)

"That album came out at an interesting time in my life. I had just graduated college, I was in an in-between stage, deciding if I was going to do music professionally or go off to school and become a doctor or something. That album had so many tight emotional elements, and it was so drum-and-bass-oriented at a time when drum and bass was just being introduced in the States. It was a totally new sound, and it just all hit me--I was very inspired by the production and the songs they wrote and the vibe of it."

Michael Jackson - Off the Wall (1979)

"Michael man, what can you say? There is so much that he has done and the people that have worked with him. Off the Wall was just so innovative because if you listen to the songs, the orchestral arrangements, the way the beats are hitting, the patterns they're using, the emphasis in the mix. It was just very futuristic. They really pushed the envelope. It's really more paying a tribute to producer Quincy Jones."

Prince - Purple Rain (1984)

"I'm a big Prince fan, and I wanted to pick something that most people would know. Prince has so many albums. Purple Rain had a movie, had a soundtrack, it had a whole vibe to it. It was off the hook."

Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf (2002)

"When I heard that album, and the way they mixed it and the songs they were doing--it's almost like a hip-hop-driven album. You have Dave Grohl on the drums just totally in the pocket and killing it. And the way it's synced up, you can spin some of those songs. That's by far their best album."
