UK newspaper claims that McCartney has signed off on deal, but all parties involved refuse to confirm.
Digital music's version of The Boy Who Cried Wolf got another chapter over the weekend.
The long-rumored deal between Apple and the Beatles to bring the Fab Four's catalog to iTunes has been inked, according to a report in the UK's Daily Mail.
But none of the involved parties have confirmed the report, and an Apple rep said, "This is not news nor is it a scoop."
The Mail reported that Apple could cough up as much as $400 million to everyone with a stake in the Beatles' catalog, including Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, the families of John Lennon and George Harrison, as well as Michael Jackson, EMI, and Sony, all of whom own certain Beatles recordings or publishing rights.
But the catalog is not on iTunes yet, and Apple has not formally announced the agreement. Apple has inked separate deals with McCartney and Lennon's estate for their solo work.
The Mail cited an unnamed source close to McCartney for its report, and claimed that Macca's pending divorce from Heather Mills is the last remaining hurdle for the deal to be finalized. The deal will help McCartney pay for the divorce settlement, which could cost him as much as $60 million.
