Since their 2002 debut, The Raveonettes have produced a distorted retrograde sound cloaked in vintage aesthetics and cool disinterest. The group's immediate successes lead to high-profile collaborations with legendary producer Richard Gottehrer (Blondie, the Go-Go's, Richard Hell & the Voidoids), Ronnie Spector, Maureen Tucker, and Martin Rev.
Discovered by Rolling Stones editor David Fricke, The Raveonettes have been coddled by the press and industry since they performed live at the SPOT festival in Aarhus, Denmark. The duo's debut, Whip It On won the "Best Rock Album of the Year" at the Danish Music Awards. Both Rolling Stone and Q Magazine have named The Raveonettes precursors of a supposed resurgence in distortion pedal-breed neo-shoe-gaze-influenced new wave--a trend that has yet to surface.
While in San Francisco on tour, MP3.com convinced Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo to chat at Alamo Square Park. The duo coolly answered questions about their latest effort, Lust Lust Lust, which finds them backing away from their Jesus and Mary Chain-inspired past and wandering into cleaner, less ear-damaging territories. In addition, Sune and Sharin breathe insight into their practice schedule--or lack thereof--the simplicity of their sound, and their upcoming tour plans.
