Montreal fest nabs Johnson, Killers

Osheaga Music and Arts Festival, set for August 3-4, will also feature sets from Iggy & the Stooges, Cat Power, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Broken Social Scene, and Duffy.

There are two must-haves for any would-be major music festival: a unique, picturesque setting and a lineup loaded with both big names and emerging buzz bands.

The Osheaga Music and Arts Festival in Montreal has scored on both counts.

The third edition of the Canadian festival, which will again be set at the stunning Parc Jean-Drapeau on the Ile Sainte-Helene, unveiled a fitting lineup, with the Killers and Jack Johnson atop the bill.

The event, set for August 3-4, will also feature sets from Iggy & The Stooges, Cat Power, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, DeVotchka, Plants & Animals, The National Parcs, Louis XIV, Sebastien Tellier, Duchess Says, Chocolat, Turzi, Le Husky, and The Tom Fun Orchestra on the first day.

The August 4 lineup will include Broken Social Scene, Duffy, Gogol Bordello, Chromeo, CSS, The Go! Team, The Black Keys, MGMT, Matt Costa, The Weakerthans, Jamie Lidell, Neil Halstead, Bonjour Brumaire, The Duke Spirit and Coeur de pirate.

More artists will be announced shortly.

Festival organizer Gillett Entertainment Group also unveiled a new hard rock festival called Heavy MTL, set for June 21-22, at the same venue. The inaugural edition will be headlined by Iron Maiden and Motley Crue and will feature appearances by Anthrax, Mastodon, Hatebreed, Priestess, and more.

Osheaga is offering an early-bird special of $105 for weekend passes to the first 5,000 people. After that, tickets will be $67.50 per day and $120 for the weekend. Tickets for Osheaga go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m. Tickets for Heavy MTL cost $75 per day, or $135 for two days, and go on sale Saturday at noon.

I've said it before: Jack Johnson is a festival whore. Why is he headlining every single goddamn festival this year? I can only imagine how lame his live show is; I picture his encore with him sitting on a stool with an acoustic guitar playing songs from the Curious George soundtrack. Seriously, f*ck this guy.
