Reunited My Bloody Valentine to play blockbuster NY event, along with Built to Spill, Meat Puppets, Thurston Moore, Tortoise, Mogwai, many more.

That sound you heard late yesterday was indie kids' heads exploding.

My Bloody Valentine My Bloody Valentine

The UK-based All Tomorrow's Parties unveiled its inaugural ATP New York event, tapping the reunited My Bloody Valentine to make its first US appearance in 16 years and also curate the festival.

The three-day ATP New York, which will take place Sept. 19-21, will be held at Kutshers Country Club in the upstate town of Monticello, approximately 100 miles from New York City.

In keeping with ATP's "Don't Look Back" series, in which bands perform their classic albums in entirety, My Bloody Valentine has landed some indie icons to do just that.

Built to Spill will reach back 11 years for a performance of its Perfect From Now On, Tortoise will play Millions Now Living Will Never Die, the Meat Puppets will take on their classic Meat Puppets II, and Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore will play his 1995 album Psychic Hearts.

Also confirmed to appear are Shellac, Mogwai, Polvo, F*** Buttons, Autolux, the Drones, Low, Wooden Shjips, Edan, and Thee Silver Mount Zion Orchestra.

Tickets are limited to 3,000 and go on sale Friday at ATPFestival.com

My Bloody Valentine My Bloody Valentine

Like the Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, and the Jesus & Mary Chain before them, My Bloody Valentine redefined what noise meant within the context of pop songwriting. Led by guitarist Kevin Shields, the group released several EPs in the mid-'80s before recording the era-defining Isn't Anything in 1988, a record that merged lilting, ethereal...

Built to Spill Built to Spill

Built to Spill were one of the most popular indie rock acts of the '90s, finding the middle ground between postmodern, Pavement-style pop and the loose, spacious jamming of Neil Young. From the outset, the band was a vehicle for singer/songwriter/guitarist Doug Martsch, who revived the concept of the indie guitar hero just as Dinosaur Jr.'s J...

Meat Puppets Meat Puppets

Out of all of the bands that made SST Records a towering force in the American underground during the mid-'80s, the Meat Puppets lasted the longest, surviving where other bands fell apart. The Meat Puppets never had the dedicated following of Hüsker Dü or the Minutemen -- two fellow SST bands who played the same circuit as the Puppets -- but...

Thurston Moore Thurston Moore

A member of the critically acclaimed art/punk rock band Sonic Youth, Moore has been involved in numerous side projects, including the Dim Stars with Richard Hell and Even Worse. His first solo album, Psychic Hearts (recorded during and immediately after his wife and Sonic Youth bassist Kim Gordon's pregnancy in 1994), with ex-Half Japanese...

Tortoise

Tortoise revolutionized American indie rock in the mid-'90s by playing down tried-and-true punk and rock & roll influences, emphasizing instead the incorporation of a variety of left-field music genres from the past 20 years, including Krautrock, dub, avant-garde jazz, classical minimalism, ambient and space music, film music, and British...

Mogwai Mogwai

The cosmic post-rock band Mogwai was formed in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1996 by guitarist/vocalist Stuart Braithwaite, guitarist Dominic Aitchison, and drummer Martin Bulloch, longtime friends with the goal of creating "serious guitar music." Toward that end they added another guitarist, John Cummings, before debuting in March 1996 with the single...

Isn't Anything was good enough to inspire an entire scene of My Bloody Valentine soundalikes, but Loveless' greatness proved that the band was inimitable. After two painstaking years in the studio and nearly bankrupting their label Creation in the process, the group emerged with their masterpiece, which fulfilled all of the promise of their...
Built to Spill "You in Reverse"
Built to Spill
Built to Spill haven't released an album for five years, and the time off seems to have rejuvenated the band -- You in Reverse is full of fire and energy. The bandmembers play with a thrilling blend of abandon and sensitivity on this mix of accessible guitar rockers, twisting and turning guitar workouts, and somber balladry with enough...

With all the turmoil and tragedy surrounding his family, it's no wonder Meat Puppets leader Curt Kirkwood fled Arizona to make a fresh start in Austin, TX. Breaking with the past, Kirkwood assembled a new quartet version of the Meat Puppets, featuring two former members of the Austin band Pariah. As presented on Golden Lies, the new Puppets are...

Tortoise
Well, this one is a surprise. The Brave and the Bold is an all-covers collaboration between Bonnie "Prince" Billy (Will Oldham) and Tortoise, and it's got a set of songs that has to be among the most eclectic of any such project, ever. From Melanie to Devo to Richard Thompson to Lungfish to Milton Nascimento, this is one interesting mix. Some of...
Mogwai "Mr. Beast"
Mogwai
Possibly the most accessible yet sophisticated album Mogwai has released, Mr. Beast strips away most of the electronic embellishment of their recent work in favor of a back-to-basics sound that returns to and expands on the approach they pioneered on Young Team. Mr. Beast is also a surprisingly spontaneous-sounding album -- in the best possible...
