Show will go on in wake of last's year melee, alleged stabbing by rapper.
R&B star Ciara leads the field of nominees for the 2005 Vibe Awards, but the real question on everyone's mind is: Will anyone get stabbed this year?
The Vibe magazine event, which will be held November 12 in Los Angeles and broadcast three days later on UPN, hopes to avoid last year's onstage melee, during which hip-hop star and producer Dr. Dre was slapped in the face by a man who was later allegedly stabbed by G-Unit rapper Young Buck.
But event officials have insisted the show must go on and have rolled out the list of nominees today.
Ciara claimed five nominations, including one for "Vibe Vixen" and artist of the year, for which she will compete against Kanye West, Mariah Carey, John Legend, and 50 Cent.
For album of the year, the nominees are Get Lifted by Legend, Late Registration by West, The Documentary by The Game, The Emancipation of Mimi by Carey, and The Naked Truth by Lil' Kim.
Lil' Kim won't be at the show, however, because she's serving a 366-day sentence at a federal detention center in Philadelphia for lying to a grand jury about a 2001 shootout between her entourage and that of rival rapper Foxy Brown.
Jimmy James Johnson, the man who ran onstage and slapped Dr. Dre last year as Dre was a receiving a lifetime achievement award, was sentenced in September to a year in jail after he pleaded guilty to assaulting the rap icon.
Young Buck has pleaded not guilty and is free on bail awaiting trial.
