Longtime solo artist says he'd be happy to get back behind the drums and let original front man Peter Gabriel take over vocals.
On the first stop of his First Final Farewell Tour, British singer Phil Collins said yesterday that he's open to the idea of a Genesis reunion.
"There's a possibility," Collins told the Associated Press. "I'm open for it. If it doesn't happen, it won't be because we don't want to. It will just be because there are too many things in the way."
Collins is currently touring the Middle East as part of what he's calling his final tour, as a he hopes to spend more time with his family.
The 54-year-old Collins told reporters in Tel Aviv that he would even be willing to get back behind the drums if former front man Peter Gabriel wanted to return as the band's lead singer.
Genesis formed as a progressive rock group in 1967, with Gabriel as lead singer and Collins on drums.
Collins took over as singer after Gabriel quit the group in 1975 to become a solo artist. Genesis became more of a pop-rock act with Collins as its lead singer.
Collins left the band in 1996 to pursue his solo career full-time--as he'd already scored megahits with Against All Odds and In the Air Tonight.
The band continued on through a series of lineup changes for a few more years, eventually disbanding in 1998.
"We're all still good friends...," Collins told the AP.
