EA says next round of top boxing game will feature tracks from Dilated Peoples, Obie Trice, Atmosphere, and Consequence.

Hip-hop is the undisputed heavyweight of Fight Night Round 3's soundtrack. Updated info reveals that the game will ship February 20.

Ask any boxer, and he or she will tell you that the sport is all about rhythm and timing. In fact, it's like a dance. However, the intensity inside the ring doesn't fit zydeco or country-and-western tunes. Publisher Electronic Arts knows this and has released information on the music that will be featured in its upcoming boxing game, Fight Night Round 3.

As expected, based on previous Fight Night games, gamers will be bobbing and weaving to up-and-coming hip-hop artists. Included on the list is Detroit native and Slim Shady's pal Obie Trice, Slug's collective Atmosphere, and West Coast crew Dilated Peoples. The creation of an all-hip-hop soundtrack means the music of cover athlete Oscar de la Hoya will not be in the game. For a list of songs that will appear in Fight Night Round 3, look below, or head over to EA's Web site for a sampling of the tunes.

EA has also settled on a release date for the game. Though the game's Web site and an announcement at CES said Fight Night Round 3 would be released on Valentine's Day, EA will now ship all versions on another holiday, Presidents' Day, February 20.

Fight Night Round 3 will appear on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PSP. The T for Teen-rated game will retail for $59.99 on the Xbox 360 and for $39.99 on all other platforms. For more info on the game, step into the ring with GameSpot's recent hands-on preview.

That doesn't look that good to me, look out for Mark Ecko's Getting Up soundtrack. That think looks great with a good deal of Biggie, Rakim, and other greats.

Dilated Peoples Dilated Peoples

With just a few (mostly underground) releases, Dilated Peoples have energized the rap underground in similar fashion to fellow West Coast crew Jurassic 5. The duo of Evidence and Rakaa came together in the mid-'90s, when they met at many of the same hip-hop shows; after deciding to start making tracks together, they formed Dilated Peoples. Once...

Atmosphere is a hip-hop group from Minneapolis that centers around rapper Slug (aka Sean Daley). The son of a black father and a white mother who divorced when he was a teenager, Slug became entranced with hip-hop, graffiti, and breakdancing, and formed the Rhyme Sayers Collective with two high school friends -- Siddiq Ali (Stress) and Derek...

Anything worth having is worth fighting for, and your career is no exception to the rule. For the Jamaica, Queens native Consequence, the ten years it has taken to maximize his full potential as a recording artist has been well worth the wait. Obie Trice went from no one to someone in the rap world quickly when Eminem signed him to Shady Records and executive produced his debut. Born on the west side of Detroit in the Schoolcraft and Greenfield area, Trice began his rap career humbly. He dropped out of Cooley High School in the early '90s and began making ends meet, which wasn't too...

Dilated Peoples
According to some pre-release interviews, Dilated Peoples member Evidence sees 20/20 as one of the more casual full-lengths from the crew. The album wasn't built as a traditional album, but rather a collection of tracks, or as Evidence puts it, 20/20 was "made on a 12'' mentality." It's a great analogy really, since the track list bounces...

For Cheers, his debut album, Obie Trice had some tough acts to follow. Less than a year earlier, fellow Shady Records signee 50 Cent had released the year's best-selling rap album, and before that, Eminem's burgeoning label had a pair of other multi-platinum, hit-filled releases: his own The Eminem Show and the 8 Mile soundtrack. Chances were,...
