Moore to curate ATP event

Sonic Youth guitarist will set lineup for acclaimed All Tomorrow's Parties' Nightmare Before Christmas event, with Moore's band Sonic Youth and Iggy Pop and the Stooges the first entries.

Sonic Youth guitarist Thurston Moore has referred to the All Tomorrow's Parties festival as the "ultimate mix tape."

While Moore has shared the duty of curating past ATP events with his bandmates, he will be making his own personal mixtape this year, as he's been selected to curate the ATP Nightmare Before Christmas event, set for December 8 to 10 at Butlins Holiday Resort in Minehead near Glastonbury in the UK.

Only two bands have been named to play the event so far: Moore's band Sonic Youth and Iggy Pop and the Stooges.

All Tomorrow's Parties started as the Bowlie Weekender, created and curated by Belle & Sebastian in 1999. The ATP events have grown in size over the years but remain focused on more independent-minded rock, hip-hop, and electronic music.

The events have become known as an indie alternative to major UK festivals such as Reading or Glastonbury, particularly because they are usually held at a resort, where fans can enjoy plush accommodations that include ATP-curated television programs in their rooms.

One of last year's events, curated by the Mars Volta, featured a lineup that included Antony and the Johnsons, the Cinematic Orchestra, Dudley Perkins, Dungen, Madlib, Saul Williams, and the Kills.

Stay tuned for more additions to the lineup.
