Bay Area beat junkie will release a new solo album this summer, with Q-Tip, David Banner, Keak da Sneak, and Turk Talk among the guests.
DJ Shadow is stepping out of the...well, you know.
The acclaimed Bay Area turntablist and beat maker said today that he signed a deal with Universal Records for a new solo album to be released this summer.
By all indications, the album will be Shadow's first featuring a full slate of guest vocalists and rappers, including Q-Tip, David Banner, Keak da Sneak, and Turk Talk. The latter two are featured on the single "3 Freaks," which is streaming for free on Shadow's Web site.
"I'm thrilled to join the team at Universal," Shadow--real name Josh Davis--said in a statement. "Finally, after years of feeling like an orphan I feel like I finally have a home."
Shadow will also play his first live gigs in almost four years this summer, including a benefit show in LA for his longtime artistic director Keith Tamashiro, who suffered a brain aneurysm last month.
"As someone who has been a fan of DJ Shadow for the past 10 years, it's an honor to have him join the Universal Motown family," Universal Motown general manager Andrew Kronfeld said in a statement. "We are delighted that Josh feels comfortable enough with us to allow us to be his partner, and we are incredibly excited for the launch of his new album this summer."
