EA's annual football game will feature the rockin', hip-hoppin' music of AFI, Audioslave, Dashboard Confessional, Wolfmother, and Dynamite MC.

Just about any aspiring band would kill its bass player to get heard by 6 million people in the US. For up-and-coming musicians, bands on the verge of stardom, and groups looking to expand their fan base, there's one surefire way to get into the eardrums of the prized 18- to 34-year-old demographic. Get on the famed Madden soundtrack.

AFI AFI

This year's soundtrack follows last year's formula, leaning heavily toward up-tempo rock with some hip-hop thrown in for good measure. Among the bigger names on the list are Audioslave ("Revelations"), Dashboard Confessional ("Reason to Believe"), and Taking Back Sunday ("Spin").

EA soundtrack vet Bishop LaMont makes an appearance with Chevy Jones on "The Best," and Dynamite MC, known for his work with Roni Size's Reprazent crew and The Nextmen, contributes his UK rhyming skills with "Bounce."

Among the new sounds on the list are postpunk rockers The Rapture and the arena-rock revival of Australian trio Wolfmother. Returning to remix some of the classic NFL Films music is Da Riffs.

The Madden games from Electronic Arts routinely top the best-selling games lists each year, pinning armchair quarterbacks to their La-Z-Boys before, during, and after the NFL season. Over the last two years, the '05 and '06 editions of the game have averaged more than 6 million units sold, with last year's being the first under EA's exclusive deal with the NFL.

Madden NFL 07 will be released this August on the PlayStation 2, Xbox, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, Game Boy Advance, GameCube, PlayStation Portable, and the PC. The game is also being developed for the PlayStation 3 and the Wii.

90% of thos songs I haven't even heard of... EA should get good bands with the money they have, not 19 year-olds dancing around in a garage making "music"

When Zack de la Rocha left Rage Against the Machine in October 2000, the band's future was put into question. Within months rumors flew that ex-Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell would replace de la Rocha. And gossip fueled truth, for Cornell joined the rest of Rage in the studio in May 2001. The mix was great and a musical bond was in the...

Dashboard Confessional Dashboard Confessional

The alternative rock outfit Dashboard Confessional hails from Boca Raton, FL, and is headed by singer/songwriter Christopher Carrabba, who became the poster boy for a new generation of emo fans in the early 2000s. Starting the group purely as a solo act, he marked his first proper effort with the release of 2000's acoustic guitar-driven Swiss...

Wolfmother Wolfmother

Truly a band out of time, Australian power trio Wolfmother were conceived in 2000 -- about 30 years too late, considering that their psychedelic brand of proto-heavy metal sounds like a ringer for late-'60s/early-'70s bands such as Blue Cheer and Black Sabbath. Comprised of vocalist/guitarist Andrew Stockdale, bassist/organist Chris Ross, and...

Hardcore punk revivalists AFI (A Fire Inside) originally formed in 1991 when their members -- vocalist Davey Havok, guitarist Markus Stopholese, bassist Vick, and drummer Adam Carson -- were attending high school in Ukiah, CA. Vick was replaced by Geoff Kresge after several months, and the band played a few local gigs and released a split 7"...

Audioslave
Given that most supergroups last little longer than a single album, it was easy to assume that Audioslave -- the pairing of Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell and the instrumental trio at the core of Rage Against the Machine -- was a one-off venture. That suspicion was given weight by their eponymous 2002 debut, which sounded as if Cornell wrote...

Wolfmother
There's no denying Australian heavy rock trio Wolfmother has been raised on rock -- specifically, raised on '70s rock. Problem is, from all appearances on their eponymous debut, they made their journey into the past via the twin gateway drugs of the White Stripes and Queens of the Stone Age, and once they dug back to the original Zeppelin and...

AFI is a band lucky to own fiercely loyal fans who embrace -- and ultimately expect -- the gradual transformation the band has undergone with each album since 1999's Black Sails in the Sunset.
