Veteran rockers will be subject of VH1's Decades Rock Live, with Iggy Pop, Garbage's Shirley Manson, Incubus, and Kings of Leon helping out.

The next episode of VH1's Decades Rock Live series will honor the Pretenders and feature performances from the group plus special guests Iggy Pop, Garbage's Shirley Manson, Incubus, and Kings of Leon.

The Pretenders The Pretenders

To be taped August 11 at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, New Jersey, the concert will be broadcast in early autumn.

The Pretenders will embark on a short tour before the taping, beginning July 9 at Cornbury Park in Charlbury, England. The group recently issued a five-disc boxed set, Pirate Radio via Sire/Warner Bros./Rhino, but there are no plans to record a new studio album at present.

"I've done lots of songs for film soundtracks and things like that--stuff I'm not ashamed of, but that doesn't represent my legacy with the Pretenders. And I wanted that represented," frontwoman Chrissie Hynde recently told Billboard of the box set. "I also thought this was a chance to present the band in a way I'd like it to be remembered--and to represent the guys I had playing with me over the years. Once I realized all this, I got completely involved in the project."

The Pretenders The Pretenders

Over the years, the Pretenders became a vehicle for guitarist/vocalist Chrissie Hynde's songwriting, yet it was a full-fledged band when it was formed in the late '70s. With their initial records, the group crossed the bridge between punk/new wave and Top 40 pop more than any other band, recording a series of hard, spiky singles that were also...

Iggy Pop Iggy Pop

There's a reason why many consider Iggy Pop the godfather of punk -- every single punk band of the past and present has either knowingly or unknowingly borrowed a thing or two from Pop and his late-'60s/early-'70s the Stooges. Born on April 21, 1947, in Muskegon, MI, James Newell Osterberg was raised by his parents (his father was an English...

Garbage Garbage

Garbage built on the sonic landscapes of My Bloody Valentine, Curve, and Sonic Youth, adding a distinct sense of accessible pop songcraft. Garbage was the brainchild of producers Butch Vig, Duke Erikson, and Steve Marker. Initially, Garbage was an informal jam session between the three producers held in Marker's basement, but they eventually...

Incubus Incubus

Incubus rose to become one of the most popular alt-metal bands of the new millennium, setting themselves apart from a crowded field with a somewhat less-negative outlook and tireless touring. Formed in 1991 in the San Fernando Valley suburb of Calabasas, CA, group members Brandon Boyd (vocals, percussion), Mike Einziger (guitar), Alex Katunich...

Kings of Leon Kings of Leon

The southern rock outfit Kings of Leon is comprised of the brothers Caleb (guitar), Nathan (drums), and Jared Followill (bass). While traveling across America's heartland during the late '80s and '90s with their evangelist father, the boys listened to the Rolling Stones and Neil Young. By the time Kings of Leon settled in Nashville in 1998,...

At the beginning of their career, Incubus was rightly lumped in with the legions of post-Korn alt metal/rap-rock bands swarming America in the latter days of the 20th century.
