Britney reportedly ready to leave California
Maybe Mel Gibson won't have to sell his house after all.
Gibson's Malibu neighbor Britney Spears is reportedly ready to leave California and return to her home state of Louisiana. In Touch Weekly reports that the pregnant Spears, who appears naked in the August issue of Harper's Bazaar, is spending $200,000 to expand her mother Lynne's home in Kentwood, Louisiana, and hopes to buy a second home in the area. The second home would be to accommodate Spears' husband, Kevin Federline, who In Touch says "likes Lynne but doesn't like her getting involved in their relationship." The mag said Spears has met with an OB/GYN doctor in nearby Baton Rouge to discuss having a C-section there when her second baby arrives in September.
"She wants to come home," the mag quotes Kentwood Mayor Harold Smith as saying. "She's building more rooms for her growing family. She wants a nursery and some kids rooms." (11:00 a.m.)
Gwyneth Paltrow reportedly recording album
Touring with one of the world's biggest rock bands has reportedly given actress Gwyneth Paltrow the music bug. Paltrow, married to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, is looking to release an album, having recorded a few tracks with producer William Orbit, according to British newspaper The Sun. The paper quotes Orbit, who produced Madonna's Ray of Light album, as saying, "We bumped into each other and got talking and it turned out she was keen to do some recording. We've already done a track which will make a brilliant first single." (10:30 a.m.)
Judge issues arrest warrant for DMX
Too busy to attend a series of court hearings about his driving-related run-ins with the law, DMX is facing a return to jail. After postponing two prior hearings at the rapper's request, City Court Judge Barbara Leak issued an arrest warrant for DMX--real name Earl Simmons--after he failed to show for a hearing yesterday. "We have granted him a number of courtesies," the judge said, according to the Associated Press. "It ends now." The rapper's lawyer, Stacey Murray, promised that he would show up in court today, saying her client had become ill while flying from Arizona to New York for the court appearance.
DMX has had a number of run-ins with the law in recent months. He was pulled over in New York on two separate occasions earlier this month for unsafe driving, and was cited the first time for not wearing a seat belt and did not have a driver's license. Earlier this year, he served a 70-day jail term after he plowed his SUV through a security gate at JFK airport and attempted to explain his way out of that mess by claiming to be a federal agent. On June 16, police in Scottsdale, Arizona, cited him for carrying a concealed handgun outside a nightclub. (10:00 a.m.)
Juvenile to tour for troops
US soldiers are about to get a Reality Check, courtesy of Juvenile.
The New Orleans rapper embarks tomorrow on a tour of military outposts, starting at the Bayfest Hawaii 2006 at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Kaneohe Bay on the island of Oahu. Joined by the Youngbloodz, Juve will then head to South Korea for a handful of performances at United States Army Bases there. Each show will be free for Army personnel and ID holders only. South Korea has served as a major port for US soldiers departing to and returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Juvenile is currently touring in support of his latest album Reality Check, which debuted atop the US album chart earlier this year. (2:30 p.m.)
Dylan's XM show goes to Baseball Hall of Fame
Bob Dylan is now in the Baseball Hall of Fame. The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum said yesterday that it has added the "baseball" episode Dylan's XM Radio show, Theme Time Radio Hour, to its archive. The one-hour episode featured Dylan singing an a cappella rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game," along with classic baseball calls, such as Curt Gowdy's legendary call of Ted Williams' home run in his final at-bat with the Boston Red Sox, and original compositions, such as Buddy Johnson's "Did You See Jackie Robinson Hit That Ball" and "The Ball Game" by Sister Wynona Carr. The CD will be added to the Hall's Library archive, which features more than 10,000 hours of recorded audio and video. (2:30 p.m.)
