Allen, Muse stay atop UK charts

"Smile" and Black Holes and Revelations keep their top slots on the single and album charts, respectively, with Thom Yorke's Eraser debuting at No. 3.

Lily Allen's "Smile" single (Regal) and Muse's Black Holes and Revelations album (Helium 3/Warner Bros.) both held on to their leads on the new UK sales charts yesterday. A quieter week than usual saw no new entries among the top 10 singles and only one in the upper echelon of the album chart, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke's solo release The Eraser (XL Recordings) at No. 3.

The singles survey showed two tracks advancing to the top 10 after lower entries last week on download sales. Australian act Rogue Traders moved 18-3 with "Voodoo Child" (RCA), while Busta Rhymes' "I Love My Chick" (Interscope) zoomed 23-8.

The highest new entry was former TV reality show contestant Shayne Ward's version of "Stand By Me" (Syco Music) at No. 14, followed by Rihanna's "Unfaithful" (Def Jam) at No. 16.

Manic Street Preachers' frontman James Dean Bradfield scored a top 20 solo single as "That's No Way To Tell a Lie" (Columbia) came in at No. 18. It's the first release from his album The Great Western, which arrives July 24 in the United Kingdom. Dirty Pretty Things entered at No. 20 with "Deadwood" (Vertigo), from the album Waterloo to Anywhere.

Other movers and debuts on the album chart included Ray Lamontagne's Trouble (Echo), which has responded to recent TV advertising by improving 33-16-10. A new Billy Joel compilation, Piano Man--The Very Best Of (Columbia), released to mark his British tour, came in at No. 16.

The Muse album enters the European Top 100 Albums chart at No.1, while "Hips Don't Lie" (Epic) by Shakira featuring Wyclef Jean leads Eurochart Hot 100 Singles for the sixth consecutive and eighth aggregrate week.
