Little is publicly known of Kanye West's longtime girlfriend, but it's safe to say she's probably a good listener.

Citing unnamed sources close to the singer, People magazine today reported that West and girlfriend Alexis got engaged on an overseas trip recently. The mag said that Alexis' last name and occupation were not immediately available, and West's reps declined comment.

This would be the first marriage for the six-time Grammy winner.

After a prolific run as a producer for some of the biggest names in hip-hop, West, 29, stormed onto the hip-hop scene in 2004 with his debut album, The College Dropout. The album earned him two Grammy awards, for best rap album and best rap song for "Through the Wire," a chronicle of West's near-fatal car crash in October 2002. The People report said that Alexis has been West's girlfriend since before the accident.

In 2005, West came back with Late Registration, which featured the smash hit "Gold Digger" featuring Jamie Foxx. West has yet to relinquish the national spotlight, headlining major festivals like Lollapalooza and Coachella and opening for the two biggest rock bands in the world, U2 and the Rolling Stones, on upcoming legs of their respective tours.
