Co-headlining jaunt with the aging Boston rockers, which kicks off September 5, is "a dream come true," says Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx.
After two decades of decadence, Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx could be excused for feeling a little jaded about yet another tour.
But the group's next outing is, in fact, "a dream come true"--a co-headlining jaunt with Aerosmith, the rock veterans who paid tribute to Mötley Crüe's frequent use of the appellation "dude" in their 1987 comeback single "Dude (Looks Like A Lady)."
"I can't believe it," Sixx told Billboard.com. "I'm excited but also kind of shocked. We toured for 14 months and now we're going right back on the road again? But for me, to go out with Aerosmith is something that is a dream come true."
Mötley Crüe's "Red, White and Crue Tour 2005--Better Live Than Dead" found the band performing its hits to a decidedly younger audience on a nightly basis. This new fan base is the reason Mötley Crüe jumped aboard the "Route of all Evil Tour" with Aerosmith, according to Sixx. The 34-date trek begins September 5 in Columbus, Ohio. Each band will perform a 90-minute set, with Aerosmith closing the show every night.
"I think both bands work together great but they're different enough where it's not going to get boring," Sixx said. "It's quite a journey for both bands."
The Crüe's journey is about to be transformed onto the silver screen with an MTV Films/Paramount project that is slated to move into production this fall. The biopic, which has yet to be cast, is based on the band's autobiography The Dirt and is due out next year. Sixx said the band will be "completely involved" in the production.
Sixx is also launching a clothing line, Royal Underground, as well as awaiting the early 2007 release of his book The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star.
As for a new Crüe album, Sixx said, "There's a lot of (new) music but I don't feel any urgency. I guess in a perfect world, the movie and the album and the tour would all kind of come at the same time. But in the Mötley world, I doubt it."
