Senegalese singer-producer, fresh off his work with the likes of Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, India.Arie, and Cham, will drop the follow-up to his platinum debut December 12.

In-demand Senegalese singer-producer Akon is set to release his sophomore album, and he's rallied some top-flight talent to help him do so.

The smooth R&B singer, whose guest spots on tracks by Rick Ross, Young Jeezy, and India.Arie have drawn critical praise, will release Konvicted December 12. The hype is already starting to build, as the first single from the record, "Smack That," featuring Eminem, was leaked online last week. Konvicted will also include collaborations with Snoop Dogg and Styles P. The video for "Smack That" will be directed by Benny Boom.

Konvicted will be the follow-up to 2004's Trouble, which has sold 1.4 million copies in the US, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The album included the hit singles "Lonely" and "Locked Up," and incited a series of guest-spot opportunities for Akon, mostly recently on the remix for India.Arie's "I Am Not My Hair," Young Jeezy's "Soul Survivor," which Akon wrote, and Cham's "Ghetto Story."

The Senegalese-born singer, who moved from Senegal to New Jersey when he was seven years old, is also working on a movie project loosely based on his rise from a troubled youth to a star.

Dear Jim...using "drop" instead of "release" to refer to R&B and Rap music is just so gosh darn funny. Are you lookin' for street cred?

Eminem Eminem

A protégé of Dr. Dre, rapper Eminem emerged in 1999 as one of the most controversial rappers to ever grace the genre. Using his biting wit and incredible skills to vent on everything from his unhappy childhood to his contempt for the mainstream media, his success became the biggest crossover success the genre had seen since Dre's solo debut...

Snoop Dogg Snoop Dogg

As the embodiment of '90s gangsta rap, Snoop Dogg blurred the lines between reality and fiction. Introduced to the world through Dr. Dre's The Chronic, Snoop quickly became the most famous star in rap, partially because of his drawled, laconic rhyming and partially because the violence that his lyrics implied seemed real, especially after he was...

Atlanta-based Young Jeezy originally planned on having a background role in the music industry -- as a businessman, not as a rapper. Years before making his first Def Jam album -- Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101, released in July 2005 -- he set up Corporate Thugz Entertainment and promoted Cash Money releases. From there, he branched out as a...

Eminem took a hiatus after the release of his first motion picture, 8 Mile, in late 2002, but it never seemed like he went away. India.Arie's third album would've sounded much different if it had been recorded and released shortly after 2002's Voyage to India. It would've either been made just before or immediately after a major breakup, one that informs much of Testimony: Vol. 1, Life & Relationship. This isn't a bitter breakup album; instead, it's largely a breakup...
