Fiddy declares more love for Dubya; Lachey buys pro basketball team; Pink records track for NFL; Green Day back in studio; Grohl ready for "big night" with miners.

50: "I'm the George Bush of hip-hop"

The Dubya of hip-hop. The Dubya of hip-hop.

A year after he defended President George W. Bush from comments made by Kanye West after Hurricane Katrina, 50 Cent has come out and praised Bush again--this time for how similar the two are. Calling Bush his "homeboy," Fiddy said, "You wanna know something? I actually like Bush. In some ways, I'm the George W. Bush of hip hop--nobody likes me, but I'm still gonna run it for the next four years." But if you were hoping 50 would declare his candidacy for the White House in 2008, you're going to be disappointed. "I don't need that kind of pressure," he said. "All I need is a sequel to my video game and a new hit single."

Last September, in the wake of West's comment that "George Bush doesn't care about black people," 50 came to Bush's defense, calling him "a gangsta" and wishing that his felony conviction hadn't prevented him from voting for Bush in the past two elections.

Pink covers Jett for NBC football broadcasts

Pink Pink

Rebel-rouser Pink is covering a song by original riot grrl Joan Jett for NBC's Sunday-night football telecasts. Pink recorded a reworked version of Jett's "I Hate Myself for Loving You" as the theme to NBC Sunday Night Football, renaming the song, "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night." In the song, Pink sings, "All right Sunday night where are you?/Just kicking back from the things that you do/You want the big game, we want it too." "This is something so different for me," Pink said in a statement. "It's like hearing yourself on the radio for the first time." The song will debut September 10 during the show's first broadcast.

Green Day ends break and gets back to work

Green Day Green Day

After spending the first half of 2006 working through ideas for their follow-up to their smash American Idiot, Green Day took a summer vacation but are now back in the studio, according to a post on the band's Web site. "Billie, Mike, and Tre are back from summer vacations and working hard on new material for the next Green Day album," the band wrote. "Stay tuned for more news next week." The trio also plans to release a film version of Idiot within the next year.

Foo Fighter to keep promise to miners

Foo Fighters Foo Fighters

Two Australian miners are going to have a chance to toss back some beers with the Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl when the band tours there later this year. Miners Brant Webb and Todd Russell spent two weeks trapped underground when the mine they were working in in southern Australia collapsed. As rescuers dug an escape tunnel, Webb and Russell were given music players to pass the time, and the pair requested Foo Fighters' songs. When Grohl got word of the news, he offered to fly the pair to the United States so he could buy them a beer. That never happened, but now that the band is set to play shows in Australia in October, Grohl says they're going to have a "big night." "You know what? I'm not just having one beer with those dudes--we're going for it," Grohl told Australian Broadcasting Corp. radio Thursday. "This is going to be a big night."

Wow...50 Cent has become more of a joke (if that's possible). What a friggin moron. I love how he adds in no facts or info or even really why he likes Bush. Cause he's a gangsta? Who the hell paid him to say that. That's prolly the dumbest thing I've ever heard (next to his legion of fans that'll regurgitate his retarded claim)

In many ways the ideal East Coast hardcore rapper, 50 Cent endured substantial obstacles throughout his young yet remarkably dramatic life before becoming in early 2003 the most discussed figure in rap, if not pop music in general. Following an unsuccessful late-'90s run at mainstream success (foiled by an attempt on his life in 2000) and a...

Pink Pink

Although she was initially viewed as yet another face in the late-'90s crowd of teen pop acts, Pink quickly showed signs of becoming one of the rare artists to transcend and outgrow the label. Born Alecia Moore on September 8, 1979, in Doylestown, PA (near Philadelphia), Pink received her nickname as a child (it had nothing to do with her later...

Green Day Green Day

Out of all the post-Nirvana American alternative bands to break into the pop mainstream, Green Day was second only to Pearl Jam in terms of influence. At their core, Green Day was simply punk revivalists, recharging the energy of speedy, catchy three-chord punk-pop songs. Though their music wasn't particularly innovative, they brought the sound...

Foo Fighters Foo Fighters

While he was drumming with Nirvana, Dave Grohl was recording original songs at home that never received public release. Those tapes would become the foundation of Foo Fighters, the band he formed in 1995, after the death of Kurt Cobain. Like Nirvana, Foo Fighters melded loud, heavy guitars with pretty melodies and mixed punk sensibilities with a...

Green Day
It's a bit tempting to peg Green Day's sprawling, ambitious, brilliant seventh album, American Idiot, as their version of a Who album, the next logical step forward from the Kinks-inspired popcraft of their underrated 2000 effort, Warning, but things aren't quite that simple. American Idiot is an unapologetic, unabashed rock opera, a form that...

Foo Fighters
Although it was as big a commercial success as Foo Fighters' three previous albums, 2002's One by One seemed flat and tired, as if their leader, Dave Grohl, had reached a songwriting slump or as if the band had exhausted its possibilities. The time was ripe for a reinvention, or at least a risk, and the group responded accordingly with In Your...
