Eminem divorce proceeds, Re-Up set for December 5
In a year that has seen his best friend killed, his second divorce from wife Kimberley Mathers, and the rap world rife with rumors of his retirement, Eminem is set to end it with a bang. The Grammy- and Oscar-winning rapper said today that his previously announced mix tape, originally intended to put the spotlight on some new artists on his Shady Records, has now turned into a full-blown album. Eminem Presents: The Re-Up will now hit stores December 5 and feature new material from Eminem himself, as well as 50 Cent, D12, and Lloyd Banks. Eminem produced most of the tracks on the album, which also features new artists like Stat Quo, Bobby Creekwater, and Ca$his.
"But what happened is that the material was so good and the tracks were getting produced like a regular album," Eminem said in a statement. "Instead of putting it out there rough and unfinished, I thought we should add some other new tracks, make it a real album and put it in the record stores to give these new artists a real boost."
Eminem also squashed reports that the album would be a tribute to Proof, saying that it was simply a chance to highlight the new artists. "The D12 album and those unreleased songs with Proof are coming," said Eminem. "But The Re-Up is about these new artists and these new songs. It isn't fair to them or to the memory of Proof to mix them up." While Eminem is set to release new music, he continues to get his personal life in order as well. The rapper--real name Marshall Mathers--attended an hour-long mediation session in Macomb County to continue divorce proceedings with his wife, Kimberley Mathers. This is the second divorce for the couple, who were married from 1999 to 2001 and then reconciled and remarried earlier this year for just 82 days.
MTV Europe to hold awards in Denmark
MTV Europe will hold its annual music awards November 2 in Denmark, with many of the big names who held court at last month's MTV Video Music Awards doing the same. "SexyBack" singer Justin Timberlake is set to host the awards, while the Red Hot Chili Peppers leads the list of nominees with four. Madonna, Shakira, Nelly Furtado, Christina Aguilera, Kanye West, and Muse garnered three nominations each. MTV said that Furtado and Muse would assist Timberlake with hosting duties. MTV Europe holds its music awards in a different city every year, with fans voting on the winners in each category. This year's show will be broadcast to 17 countries with a potential 1.4 billion viewers, MTV said.
K-Fed rolls out Fire presale
Kevin Federline fanatics that can't get enough of the Fed man now have a chance to get a pair of his shoes. Specifically, one lucky fan will win the pair of shoes K-Fed wore during his performance on the Teen Choice Awards last month. Federline's debut album, Playing With Fire, is now available for presale, with the first 500 buyers receiving an autographed head shot of Kevin and a chance to get an invite to his record release party in Los Angeles. The second place winner will get the shoes. Fire hits stores October 31, with K-Fed's wife, Britney Spears, hosting the party and also appearing on one track--dubbed "Crazy"--on the album.
Aaron Carter proposes to Playboy Playmate on stage in Vegas
At 18 years of age, pop singer Aaron Carter has already had four Top 40 singles, making him the youngest solo male artist to do so, and has also proposed, on a Las Vegas stage, to a former Miss United States Teen turned Playboy Playmate. And she said yes. Carter proposed to 22-year-old Kari Ann Peniche, who relinquished her Miss Teen title after posing for Playboy in 2004, on a Vegas stage last night, according to Us Weekly. Carter is the younger brother of Backstreet Boy Nick Carter. House of Carters, a reality show about Aaron, Nick, and their three sisters, premieres next month on E!.
Revamped INXS dumped by label
This has not been a good week for alumni of the CBS reality show Rock Star. First, a court order ruled that the show's band Supernova had to change its name to avoid infringing on the trademark of another band of the same name. With an album and a tour on the way, the band changed its name to Rock Star: Supernova, the same name as the show. Now comes word that Epic Records, the US label attached to the CBS reality project, has dumped INXS, the subject of the first season of Rock Star. After the 1997 death of frontman Michael Hutchence, the band did not record any new material, but they got a new lead singer in JD Fortune from Rock Star last year, released an album, and went on tour. The album, Switch, sold 375,000 copies in the US. INXS remains signed to Sony BMG in Australia, where Switch was a massive hit. The group is on tour in Australia and has dates scheduled worldwide through November 21 in Orlando, Florida.
