The album is due November 14 via Johnson's Brushfire label; the film, which was released on DVD last year, will see a theatrical release in November.

Johnson's contributions are the tracks "Home" and "Sung," the latter featuring Matt Costa and Zach Gill. Also included is an acoustic version of "Breakdown," which Johnson wrote while traveling to Chile for a 2001 surf trip with his childhood hero, Gerry Lopez.

Vedder offers the ukulele track "Goodbye," which he first performed at a March 15, 2002, solo show in Los Angeles. A Brokedown Melody is rounded out by previously released tracks from Kings of Convenience, Built to Spill's Doug Martsch, the Beta Band, M. Ward, and Costa.

Before Jack Johnson perfected his rock star ways, he was a champion surfer on the professional route, with a sponsorship with Quiksilver. It was a life that was second nature for the Hawaiian native, for he began chasing waves as a toddler, and by the time he was 17, he was an outstanding athlete on the pipeline. However, Johnson was also...

Built to Spill Built to Spill

Built to Spill were one of the most popular indie rock acts of the '90s, finding the middle ground between postmodern, Pavement-style pop and the loose, spacious jamming of Neil Young. The Beta Band The Beta Band

Their sound veering from post-grunge balladry to funk and ambient breakbeat to Madchester acid house, the Beta Band emerged on the British scene as (nominally) a pop group with few similarities to any other act going. It makes sense why Brushfire Records co-founder Jack Johnson signed Matt Costa to his label. Costa's debut album, Songs We Sing, is acoustic guitar-based music, that, even when talking about sadder things, retains its lighter, happier character; music that could only be made in the Pacific sun, a lot like Johnson's.
