McCartney says he's doing fine
Paul McCartney held a press conference today to promote his new classical album, Ecce Cor Meum (Behold My Heart), and largely danced around questions related to his split from his second wife, Heather Mills McCartney, according to the Associated Press. But asked how he had been coping in recent months, McCartney said: "I'm doing fine thank you. It's OK. I'm enjoying music. It's something I love to do. It's something that sustains me. So I'm enjoying it, finishing this project off and also the next one."
McCartney said he started Ecce Cor Meum when his first wife, Linda, was still alive. After she died of breast cancer in 1998, "it stalled me," the 64-year-old former Beatle said. "I took a year or so before I could get back into it. The interlude in the middle is a particularly sad melody and is what got me going again," he said. "Her spirit is very much in this. It would have been her birthday yesterday so it's very appropriate." Paul and Heather Mills McCartney announced their separation in May after four years of marriage. They have begun divorce proceedings in an increasingly acrimonious split. The couple have a 2-year-old daughter, Beatrice. Ecce Cor Meum is McCartney's fourth classical album.
BIG reward reinstated
With the 1997 murder of Notorious BIG still unsolved and the rapper's family and the city of Los Angeles set to square off in round two of a wrongful death lawsuit in February, the Los Angeles City Council voted to reinstate a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whomever was responsible for the drive-by shooting. With a retrial in the lawsuit filed by BIG's mother, Violetta Wallace, set for trial in February, the LAPD reopened the investigation into the murder last month by forming a six-man task force composed of six veteran homicide detectives.
The coalition is to probe whether BIG was killed by gang members as retaliation for the slaying of rapper Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas six months earlier. Shakur's murder has also gone unresolved and crossed its 10-year mark this month. Wallace's suit claims that rogue LAPD officers, one of whom was allegedly on duty at the time, were involved in the killing of the 24-year-old rap star. Some have speculated that the city is simply trying to bolster its case before the retrial. Wallace first filed the complaint in 2002.
Aaron Carter too sexy for Playboy Playmate
Teen pop singer Aaron Carter has ended his week-long engagement to Kari Ann Peniche, a former Miss Teen USA and former Playboy Playmate and also a former girlfriend of Carter's older brother, 26-year-old Backstreet Boy Nick Carter. The younger Carter confirmed the move to Us Weekly today, saying, "I got caught up in the moment and proposed. I then realized it was a hasty thing to do and I am not ready for marriage quite yet." Carter had proposed to Peniche last week on stage in Las Vegas. The Carter brothers are set to star in the upcoming E! reality series House of Carters, which debuts October 2.
MTV relaunches bilingual Tr3s channel
MTV is stepping up its Latino game, upgrading and relaunching its former MTV Espanol as MTV Tr3s, a 24-hour music channel with on-air VJs and MiTRL, a weekly version of MTV's flagship TRL show. MTV Espanol consisted mostly of eight-hour music video blocks that repeated throughout the day, with no on-air personalities. The new channel will mirror MTV and hopes to significantly increase the channel's audience, looking to reach 55 percent of Latino TV households, or 5.5 million homes, by the end of the year. The first episode of MiTRL will feature a live performance by Alejandro Sanz and world premieres of videos by Sanz and Ricky Martin.
Steven Tyler reveals Hepatitis C battle
Aerosmith's Steven Tyler, currently in the midst of his band's "Route of All Evil" tour with Motley Crue, has revealed his secret three-year battle with Hepatitis C, a serious viral infection of the blood, often associated with dirty needles, that can lead to chronic liver disease. Tyler, 58, told the show Access Hollywood that a year's worth of interferon treatment has helped him beat it. "It is nonexistent in my bloodstream...where it's like a complete cure," he told the show. "I've been pretty quiet about this. The band took a break about three years ago... [My doctor] said now is the time. You know, it really hurt. It was a bad, bad period. I'm in AA, and I tried to go three, four, five months with nothing, and it about killed me."
About 4.5 million Americans suffer from Hepatitis C, which is hard to detect but can cause scarring of the liver and lead to cirrhosis. In 2002, Pamela Anderson announced that she had contracted the disease after sharing tattoo needles with ex-husband Tommy Lee. "Hepatitis C is the one that, of all the people in this room, at least three have it and don't know it," Tyler said. "It's the silent killer. I may go on Oprah and talk about this. I hope you don't mind me mentioning that."
Hassy, wife debate 911 call
He's big in Germany, but life at the Hasselhoff home doesn't seem to be going very well these days. Several media outlets today reported that David Hasselhoff's daughter Hayley tried to commit suicide Sunday night, but Hasselhoff's estranged wife Pamela Bach is disputing those claims. TMZ.com reported that Hasselhoff himself called 911 from the family's home to report that his 14-year-old daughter had "cut herself." Bach then told TMZ that her daughter never attempted suicide and that David knew it. Bach claims David used his daughter as a pawn, telling Bach, "You're going down. I'm calling the police."
Hasselhoff and Bach have been going through a bitter divorce and custody fight. Bach has alleged both physical and verbal abuse and said that Hasselhoff has called her "whore, c**t, b***h, slut, and drug addict" in front of their children. Hasselhoff has denied all the allegations. Hayley Hasselhoff was reportedly taken to a local hospital for treatment, and the Mental Evaluation Unit of LAPD is now handling the case.
