Big Day Out lands Tool, Killers

Festival tour of Australia and New Zealand lineup also boasts Muse, Jet, My Chemical Romance, Violent Femmes, Peaches, and Spank Rock.

The 2007 Big Day Out festival tour unveiled its preliminary lineup today, and it leans heavily on rock from several corners of the globe, from US acts like Tool, the Killers, and My Chemical Romance, to the UK's Muse and Australia's Jet.

The six-date tour of Australia and New Zealand in January and February will be Tool's first Australian jaunt since 2002, when frontman James Maynard Keenan performed behind an illuminated screen. Vegas rocker the Killers are touring in support of their new album, Sam's Town, which hit stores this week, while My Chemical Romance's forthcoming emo concept album, The Black Parade, comes out October 23.

Jet, which debuted at Big Day Out three years ago on a side stage, has since gone on to sell more than 2.5 million copies of its debut album, Get Born. The band's sophomore album, Shine On, hits stores this week.

UK alt-rock group Muse's recent album Black Holes and Revelations went to No. 1 in Australia, Britain, and across Europe earlier this year.

That quintet of heavyweights will be joined by the Violent Femmes, Peaches, the Sleepy Jackson, Evermore, Eskimo Joe, Scribe, Spank Rock, the Herd, and the Spazzys. Tickets go on sale October 13, with additional acts being announced in the coming months.

Last year's Big Day Out festival featured performances from the Mars Volta, Franz Ferdinand, the White Stripes, Iggy and the Stooges, Sleater-Kinney, Common, M.I.A., and Kings of Leon.
