Legendary rocker will voice a character called Lord Royal Highness on the popular Nickelodeon network cartoon series.

David Bowie posted on his Web site that he has landed what he called "the Holy Grail of animation gigs," as he will voice a character on SpongeBob SquarePants, the long-running children's cartoon series on the Nickelodeon network.
"Yesterday I got to be a character on...tan-tara...SpongeBob SquarePants," Bowie wrote. "Oh Yeah!! We, the family, are thrilled. Nothing else need happen this year, well, this week anyway."
Bowie, 59, has a six-year-old daughter, Alexandria, with his wife, the model Iman.
"My character in this special longform (I think a half-hour special) show is called 'Lord Royal Highness,'" he continued. "Alrighteee!! It won't air unfortunately for another eight or nine months but then, watch out."
SpongeBob SquarePants, focusing on an friendly sponge who lives with his pet snail Gary in a pineapple under the sea, has been one of the most popular children's TV shows since it debuted in 1999. The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie hit theaters in 2004.
