Wham! to reunite?

The mesh tank-top is back. The mesh tank-top is back.

When he's not falling asleep at the wheel and doing his first major tour in 15 years, George Michael is convicing ex-Wham!-mate Andrew Ridgeley to reunite. The UK's Sunday Mirror reports that the '80s hit-making duo is getting back together for a reunion Christmas concert at London's Wembley Arena. The duo, who had a string of early-1980s pop hits with songs like "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go," played a farewell show in 1986 at Wembley Stadium and have not appeared together since. "George is thrilled that Andrew's agreed to perform," a source told the paper. "It was something George had thought about for a long time. He couldn't be happier and can't wait for the gig." The paper reported that the duo will be joined by their one-time backup singers their backing singers Pepsi and Shirlie. Both men are 43 years old.

Cat Power to model for Chanel

In a year that saw her battle alcoholism and look death in the face, enigmatic singer Cat Power (Chan Marshall) is now set to become the new face of the Chanel's jewelry collections, according to a report in Women's Wear Daily. Marshall has long had a penchant for Chanel jewelry and clothing and told the trade mag that she recently bumped into Chanel's Karl Lagerfeld. "I was outside waiting, sitting on a pile of Louis Vuitton luggage, drinking water, with an apple and a cigarette in my hand, my cell phone, oh, and two guitars, and out comes Karl," Marshall said. "He walks up, looks at me and says, 'Only a woman can look glamorous when smoking.' And I lowered my glasses and pointed to [the shadows under my] eyes and said, 'With these?'" That was enough to seal the deal, apparently.

Who frontman to appear in CSI

Daltrey and Pete Townshend. Daltrey and Pete Townshend.

For the first time and likely the last, Roger Daltrey is following in the footsteps of Kevin Federline. Just as Federline did this week, the Who frontman, whose voice opens every episode of the hit CBS show CSI, is set to guest star on an upcoming episode. Producers are keeping details about his character under wraps, calling it "a surprise role that will keep viewers guessing." The song "Who Are You" by the Who has served as the theme for CSI since the show's launch in 2000. Two other Who songs, "Won't Get Fooled Again" and "Baba O'Riley," are the themes for spinoffs CSI: Miami and CSI: NY, respectively. Daltrey is no stranger to the acting world. He was nominated for a Golden Globe for his portrayal of the title character in Tommy, the film adaptation of the Who's rock opera, and he recently completed filming on Extreme History, a series for the History Channel. The Who is on tour in support of the new album Endless Wire, slated for release October 31.

Pearl Jam photo book unveiled

Eddie Vedder Eddie Vedder

5X1: Pearl Jam Through the Eye of Lance Mercer, a new photography book from the band's longtime friend, was unveiled on the band's Web site today and is for sale to members of the band's Ten Club. The book, which focuses on the first half of the band's career, includes 180 unreleased pics of the band. It also includes written tributes by Bruce Springsteen, Cameron Crowe, Tim Robbins, Michael Stipe, Pete Townshend, Ben Harper, Red Sox General Manager Theo Epstein, and political activist Howard Zinn. Mercer previously collaborated with photographer Charles Peterson on the 1998 Pearl Jam photo book Place/Date. Pearl Jam has been touring for most of 2006 in support of its self-titled album. The band is set to perform at Neil Young's Bridge School Benefit outside San Francisco October 21-22.

All-American Rejects to guest on Smallville

All-American Rejects All-American Rejects

Rock band All-American Rejects will serenade Superman and company on the popular CW show Smallville. The band is set to perform its new single, "It Ends Tonight," on tomorrow's episode of the show. The episode, titled "Whither," revolves around a guilt-ridden Lex Luthor--who caused mayhem and destruction while in the form of Zod--throwing a charity costume ball for the town. To make sure the festivities come off with a cross-promotional zing, he hires the Rejects to play the party. The Rejects released sophomore record Move Along last year and saw the album land in the Billboard top ten. "It Ends Tonight" is the most recent single from the album.

Wham! Wham!

Wham! sparked something of a pop revival in the mid-'80s and could arguably be held responsible for sparking off the boy band trend of the '90s. They were unashamedly pop, to the point of padding the front of their trousers for television appearances. At the heart, however, was a string of catchy singalong singles written by George Michael (born...

Cat Power was the alias of Chan Marshall, a Southern-bred singer/songwriter whose father, Charlie, was an itinerant pianist. After dropping out of high school, Marshall found herself in New York; performing under the name Cat Power, she was booked as the opening act for Liz Phair, where she met Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley and Two Dollar...

The Who The Who

Few bands in the history of rock & roll were riddled with as many contradictions as the Who. All four members had wildly different personalities, as their notoriously intense live performances demonstrated. The group was a whirlwind of activity, as the wild Keith Moon fell over his drum kit and Pete Townshend leaped into the air with his guitar,...

Pearl Jam Pearl Jam

Pearl Jam rose from the ashes of Mother Love Bone to become the most popular American rock & roll band of the '90s. After vocalist Andrew Wood overdosed on heroin in 1990, guitarist Stone Gossard and bassist Jeff Ament assembled a new band, bringing in Mike McCready on lead guitar and recording a demo with Soundgarden's Matt Cameron on drums....

Tyson Ritter (vocals/bass) and Nick Wheeler (guitar/programming) were in junior high school when music started to influence them. Both were stuck in the ho-hum life of small-town America. Stillwater, OK, wasn't exactly the most exciting place in the world, so naturally the boys turned to music. While Ritter was staying up late, watching music...

Driven by Pete Townshend's arching musical ambitions, It's Hard was an undistinguished final effort from The Who. Nearly 15 years after Ten, Pearl Jam finally returned to the strengths of their debut with 2006's Pearl Jam, a sharply focused set of impassioned hard rock. The All-American Rejects' effervescent 2003 hit "Swing Swing" sounded like a pop-punk adaptation of Better Than Ezra, and their sophomore effort makes this mix even more apparent.
