Inaugural event, which will air on BET November 15, will feature performances from Snoop Dogg, Ludacris, T.I. & Young Dro, and Young Jeezy.

BET unveiled the nominees for its inaugural Hip-Hop Awards today, with Atlanta rapper T.I. leading the way with eight nominations, while Busta Rhymes and Chamillionaire followed with six and five apiece.

The awards show, which will be taped November 12 at the Fox Theatre in T.I.'s hometown of Atlanta and will air on BET November 15, will be hosted by comedian Katt Williams.

Snoop Dogg, Ludacris, T.I. & Young Dro, and Young Jeezy are slated to perform at the event, while other artists will be announced in the coming weeks.

T.I.'s eight nominations include video of the year and hip-hop track of the year for his single "What You Know." He's joined in the video of the year category by Busta's "Touch It" remix featuring Mary J. Blige, Rah Digga, Missy Elliott, Lloyd Banks, Papoose, and DMX, as well as Common's "Testify," Lupe Fiasco's "Kick, Push," and Yunc Joc's "Goin' Down."

The event has several categories that focus on each individual's body of work throughout the past year. They include producer of the year, for which Jermaine Dupri, Kanye West, Lil' Jon, Nitti, and Swizz Beatz have been nominated, as well as video director of the year, whose nominees are Benny Boom, Dr. Teeth, Hype Williams, Little X, and Sanaa Hamri.

"This show is very much about where hip-hop culture is right now," BET's Stephen Hill said in a statement. "But we will honor the original four elements of hip-hop and show their connection to today's beats, rhymes and life."

Williams, Ludacris, Jermaine Dupri, and Young Jeezy were on hand in their hometown to announce the nominees during a press conference at the Metropolitan Atlanta Chamber of Commerce.

Other multiple nominees include: Yung Joc and Lupe Fiasco with four, Kanye West, Lil' Wayne, and Young Jeezy with three, and Rick Ross, Nelly, and Cham with two each.

Where's the Holy Hip-Hop category? Hip Hop is diverse, not to sound bias, but there must be a balance.

I can't believe Ghostface and the Roots are nowhere to be found. These people seriously need to be more consistent. Some categories have five nominations, others seven. I don't want to name no names, but some MC's are hyped up.

The most idiosyncratic personality in rap and possessor of its most recognizable delivery, a halting, ragga-inspired style with incredible complexity, inventiveness, and humor, Busta Rhymes formed Leaders of the New School in 1990 and released two albums with the group before breaking out with a 1996 solo hit single, "Woo-Hah!! Got You All in...

Chamillionaire Chamillionaire

Dubbed "the Mixtape Messiah," Houston's Chamillionaire arrived late as a major-label artist during his city's 2005 takeover of mainstream rap -- the Top Ten Sound of Revenge, released during November that year, followed albums from Mike Jones, Slim Thug, and former Color Changin' Click partner Paul Wall -- but he had already built a loyal...
