Brooklyn rapper shot in thigh, arrested, and taken to hospital after he and his crew reportedly got into a fight with another group at Justin's restaurant.
Fabolous might be watching his performance on tonight's airing on the VH1 Hip-Hop Honors show from a hospital bed.
The 28-year-old Brooklyn-born rapper--real name John Jackson--was reportedly shot in the thigh in a Manhattan parking garage at around 12:30 a.m. after he and his crew got into a brawl with another group at the Sean "Diddy" Combs-owned Justin's restaurant.
Fabolous and three friends sped away from the scene in a white Dodge Magnum but were pulled over by police after running a red light, according to the Associated Press. All four were arrested after police said they found two loaded guns, both apparently unlicensed, and Fabolous was then taken to nearby Bellevue Hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
A New York Police Department spokesperson said Fabolous and three men, ages 18, 23, and 29, got into a fight with another group of men at Justin's restaurant on West 21st Street in Manhattan's Flatiron District. The fight spilled outside, and an unidentified man approached the group in a nearby parking garage and opened fire, AP reported.
Fabolous was hit in the thigh and his friends grabbed him and quickly piled into the car and sped off. When they were pulled over by police minutes later, all four men were arrested, with charges pending and likely to include criminal possession of a weapon. NYPD Sgt. Mike Wysokowski said that in New York City, anyone found in a vehicle with an unlicensed firearm is considered to be "in possession" of the weapon.
Police are still searching for the shooter.
Earlier this month, Fabolous joined an all-star cast of hip-hop performers at the taping of the VH1 Hip Hop Honors, which honored the Beastie Boys, Ice Cube, Wu-Tang Clan, MC Lyte, Afrika Bambaataa, Rakim, Eazy-E, and Russell Simmons. The show airs tonight on VH1.
The rapper, who was arrested three times in 2003 on gun charges and a moving violation, is set to release an album on Def Jam in December. A Def Jam spokesperson could not be reached for comment.
