Veteran funk rockers will team with breakout soul duo for a three-month US jaunt from January to March.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers are set to tour the US in 2007 with Gnarls Barkley, combining a veteran funk-rock act with a penchant for rocking out in their underwear with 2006's breakout duo known for sporting lavish costumes on stage.
The Chili Peppers will be continuing their tour in support of their ninth album, Stadium Arcadium, which hit stores in May and was produced by Rick Rubin. The trek through US arenas will begin in January and continue through March, although specific dates have yet to be announced.
The Chili Peppers are on the road now, set to wrap up an arena run early next month. Stadium Arcadium was the band's first-ever No. 1 album on The Billboard 200 chart, led by the single "Dani California" and follow-up cut "Tell Me Baby."
The band is nominated for three American Music Awards, which will be presented November 21 in Los Angeles. While the Chili Peppers have been around since the early 1980s, Gnarls Barkley--producer Danger Mouse and singer Cee-Lo Green--has been the breakout group of 2006, riding the worldwide success of the hit "Crazy" to platinum sales of its debut album, St. Elsewhere.
The group started as a side project for the pair. Cee-Lo has released two solo albums and is set to reunite with the Atlanta hip-hop group he cofounded, Goodie Mob. Danger Mouse rose to fame by creating The Gray Album a mash-up of tracks from Jay-Z's Black Album and the Beatles' White Album. He also produced the second Gorillaz album, Demon Days.
Gnarls is prepping a limited-edition, deluxe package of St. Elsewhere for a November 7 release. The updated collection will include a 92-page booklet and a bonus DVD containing four music videos, as well as live recordings.
